What steps will you be taking to get more healthy in 2016?

I want to set myself some realistic resolutions and need some ideas! Thanks in advance.

Reduce my bacon intake (sad but true). 2015 was a bad year for bacon.

A cheat way of doing it is to substitute a bacon day for something with bacon crispies you know those crunchie things for salads? they're actually generally vegan or at least vegetarian :D

or say that every 4th time you want bacon you'll use a quorn substitute or something. you'll either like the substitute taste and get the protein and flavor that way OR you'll hate it and will end up trying to ration out your allowed bacon times so you don't reach the quorn stage so soon ;) win win!

Increase my bacon intake. I've been on the keto bandwagon for years and plan to stay on it.

I have two slices with breakfast, and that's it. Then again, I eat mostly veggies, meat, and some fruit (though I do have rice about once a week). Everything in moderation.

Can confirm, much bacon was consumed in 2015

Same thing as every year, quit smoking. Ughh.

Less sugar, fewer carbs, less red meat. More vegetables, more yoga, and more miles on foot.

I quit smoking a few months ago and that has been great, however now I'm trying to really cut back on the drinking of alcoholic beverages and maybe just limit them to truly special occasions!

Congrats! It's one of the best decisions you can make, I don't think you'll regret it.

I currently have a swollen parotid gland, which amongst other unpleasant effects has partially paralysed my tongue (bends to the left. Weird) and my swallowing reflex. This means that any nourishment is likely to end up in my lungs as well as my stomach. To minimise my chance of accidental death I have had to resort to liquids only.

I have lost 8lbs this last month alone.

Do you find this gives you powers of concentration? I sometimes find myself doing that unconsciously for focus.

Solids are for showoffs, braggarts and Instagram users.

I don’t know if you already have it, or what’s in stock down at the local Tesco or what-have-you, or even what your medical brain trust would say about it, but I’d bet you can find protein powder with BCAAs and, conceivably, even glutamine nearby.

Not like you needed a Mr Hyde potion, or anything, I mean.

I stick my tongue between my lip-protected teeth when I'm concentrating. That function has not been affected.

Yes, I could get all that stuff, but I kept thinking things would start working again any moment. Milk seems to be an acceptable substitute, plus it is not too unpleasant to cough back up. The thicker the fluid the worse it is. (The tomato soup experiment was a disaster.)

I have been tempted to prowl the streets at night, looking for suitable victims, but sadly it's been raining rather a lot. Offputting.

It would be so nice to just pop that out.

Ohh yes it would. I keep fingering it, looking for weak spots...

Continue with not drinking alcohol. Quitting that crap made my life in many ways better. :-) I also continue smoking, having a really awkward bio-clock, eating fresh foods (after preparing them in the best ways possible) and enjoy my reefer. Yup. And as a special focus for mental health: keep loving my woman (which is easy, she's sweet), going outside more (graffiti is a good excuse for getting outdoor excersise) and making people smile and/or happy with cooking for them, listening to their stories and the crazy things I tend to ramble about. :-)

I need to increase my aerobic work like jogging, walking, or jumping around like a monkey. Something to get me more active but is not mundane.

I'm going to attempt to sit less often during the day. And correct my posture.

last 2 years I've reduced my high caffeine fizzy drink intake to almost nothing (I had 4 total this year). Also cut down the sugar in my tea by switching every second cuppa to a green tea (jasmine green tea and peach green tea really don't need the sugar so it's fairly easy).

I expect to do more physical stuff this year as I'm expecting to get a job in the next few weeks (yay in a lab) so will get more walking and standing time naturally :)

I need to reduce weight, about 15 lbs. It's salad city for several months and more hiking. Hope to be there by June.

Don´t do diets. They just make people bounce back. Set a new menu and stick to it.

Yes, absolutely, I was 240 pounds 15 years ago and got to 180 in about a year. Cut out as much sugar as possible, cut way back on carbs, lots of protein and lot's of veggies/fruits. Definitely had change my diet. The hardest part for me was understanding there was life after carbs! I got really lazy last year and got up to 200lbs...so now back to focusing.

It's a complicated venture for me. I simultaneously must lose weight, yet losing weight makes me very prone to uric acid stones. I got a stone last year and it resulted in four months of needing to be on painkillers (opiates), immense amounts of pain, and overall the most miserable period of my life - I was on the verge of quitting my job needlessly.

So my first step to getting healthy is to meet with my GP and look at better strategies to help monitor my uric acid and prevent another kidney stone.

I'm giving up food and only smoking cigarettes for required nutritional subsistence. 2016 is the year I finally get rid of this spare tire!
