Commented in One Simple Change May Dramatically Boost The Effect of COVID-19 Vaccines
Interesting read. Far from conclusive, but if further research confirms this finding, it might be worth recalibrating all vaccines to two shots, one in each arm.

Commented in Dogs and Cats Can Be Healthy, Happy Vegans, Research Shows
This is correct. The latter day saints have been pushing anti meat since before we were born cause eating meat (according to them) makes people horny and sex is bad!!
Water fowl get what's called angel wing when fed bread.
Squirrels and birds develop fatty liver when fed corn and other grains.
Ruminants will die when constantly fed grain, same goes for rabbits.
Anyway, yes,if animals don't get to eat the diet they evolved to eat, they have serious medical problems and die. Same happens to humans.
And of course, this "research" is done by organizations pushing a vegan agenda...These animals will not eat this carbage unless humans force them by giving them no other choice...And the long term consequences are devastating to the animals,as mentioned above.
And then there are people with gut problems like IBS and IBD and trying to force us to be vegan/vegetarian is also not a good idea...Vegans don't care how much suffering they induce,as long as they get their way.
And then there are the oxalates in plants that cause kidney stones... Ever passed a kidney stone? You really don't want to.
Getting off soap box.

Commented in Obesity might be one of the causes of depression, study suggests
The meta-analysis suggests that obesity is associated with a higher risk of depression and that there might be a causal relationship between the two. The researchers propose that the rising prevalence of depression could be attributed, in part, to the increasing rates of obesity. This study was published in the Journal of Psychiatric Research.

Commented in Big pharma says drug prices reflect R&D cost. Researchers call BS
This article says you're right and this article shows how far they are willing to go for those profits.
And also do I agree with you on that topic for many years. :-)

Commented in Coffee drinkers may be at lower risk of early death, study suggests
I also did some scientific research and found that being alive is 100% the cause of death. :-)

Commented in Lifelong excess weight can nearly double risk of womb cancer – study
No one really knows cause,as usual, more research is needed. Yet they never update their research on salt or sugar research, etc.

Commented in A Toxic Fungus Could Be Contributing to Some People's Irritable Bowel Disease
It's inflammatory bowel disease, not irritable bowel disease. That being said, research is leaning towards these gut disorders being on a spectrum, with IBS at one end and IBD at the other. The worst of both worlds is when they meet in the middle.

Commented in World's first living robots can now reproduce, scientists say
...regulated by ethics experts.
...The research was partially funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a federal agency that oversees the development of technology for military use.
DARPA and ethics? Whose interests are going to win out in THAT contest?

Commented in Online Trolls Actually Just Assholes All the Time, Study Finds
Bottom line: nice people don't harass others online or offline. I'm glad that research confirmed the obvious.

Commented in Earthlings, rejoice: We're visiting Venus again. Twice.
And with Russia also prepared to launch a Venus probe this decade, a new space race is on.
Excuse me? I do not think this is a new race, the Russians (Soviets) won that already decades ago. First landing on the surface, first photo's from the surface, first sound recordings from the surface, amongst others, were also the firsts of humans ever to do on another planet. It's nice to see research being done and all, but the propaganda reeks very strong in this article.

Commented in Treating the immune system, treating schizophrenia?
Astounding research.

Commented in The 'Replication Crisis' Could Be Worse Than We Thought, New Analysis Reveals
LOL! I read that as" reptilian crisis." I'm sure hoping I did not upset any reptiles out there.
"We hope our research encourages readers to be cautious if they read something that is interesting and appealing," says Serra-Garcia.
I usually do,except anything that reads "in mice".

Commented in Science has fixed the worst part of psychedelic drugs usage for depression
It's sad to read that about your friend. I hope that doctors can help him in a constructive way one day. I have a niece who is bipolar and it is no fun for her, so I (sort of) understand the suffering of your friend.
Never knew there are centers where ketamine is used as medicine. I think that is awesome and also a result of good research and acceptance of psychedelics as treatment. :-) -
Commented in ‘I Can See Dead People’: Many People Believe in Ghosts For a Reason.
I did some research and found those letters are unicode Cyrillic letters. Unicode іѕ quite ѕтгаиgе.

Commented in Food futurology: What will we be eating 10 years from now?
I sincerely doubt this will happen since we have the short intestines and small cecum of a carnaviior/omnivorous being . Also,on average.1 in 12 us us have IBS and one in 100 have IBD and such a diet is not going to fly with us.
In a nutshell, there is not a "protein craze." Humans have always eaten this way. There is a vegan craze with a relentless pushing of the vegan religion on all comers.
Remember how insects were pushed as a food source and how well that worked out? I believe those who refuse to get in lock step with a small, but vocal minority will be vindicated.
People who write such pieces presume incorrectly that because they eat no meat means everyone should do the same, ignoring science, anatomy, evolution, everyone being different and some having medical problems precluding such a diet. The long term consequences of removing fat/meat from the human diet are only recently being investigated. What seed oils do to humans is not a fun ride, but I digress.
Add to that, even those without gi problems are not going to eat this way because we need meat and-animal fat to function normally. Some people will,of course. Not much research has been done on the consequences of eating such a diet, but I feel more will be learned as time goes on.
In my history, you can find lots of links dealing with this subject and I'd just as soon not add more. . Unless our intestines are impressively altered so we become hind gut ferminters and unless our microbiome changes to allow us to process veg matter like rabbits do,humans will continue to eat what we evolved to eat. And vegans will continue to demand we stop.

Commented in Study links regular use of Fox News, Twitter, and Facebook to reduced knowledge about COVID-19
Who pays for all this useless "research"? With all the double-talk, backtracking, topic avoidance, and false narratives, does anyone know the "real" COVID-19 story?

Commented in The Black Hole Information Paradox Comes to an End
Very nice long-read. :-) It is posts like this that make my day in an inspirational way. I do not understand the math behind all of that, but it is explained in a very clear way, which makes it really fun. Now I am all full of wondering about the loss of information, wormholes and why they never take electro-magnetism into account of all of their research. For instance, there are four types of black hole (so far) according to this link, and in all of them electrical charge is important to describe the type. Would including electricity in the equation not change the theoretical outcomes as described in the, again: very nice, article?

Commented in $100,000 in bribes helped fraudulent Amazon sellers earn $100 million, DOJ says
I use amazon a lot when shopping for little gadgets and gizmos, stuff I can't find locally. I do a lot of research, and generally check other sources to see the real ratings and quality of the products. I must agree, Amazon definitely has an image problem going into this decade.

Commented in The research is clear: White people are not more likely than Black people to be killed by police.
“He is using the truth to tell a lie,” Miller says of Trump. “Or at the very least to mislead
It's more than a little ironic that the Professor would say something like that since that's exactly what he's doing.
He is right on one thing, the research is clear. It's a racial group's rate of violent crime that is ultimately the determining factor in the rate of police shootings. That's been confirmed by multiple studies time and time again, yet because it destroys the narrative it's ignored.

Commented in This Could Finally Be the Year of E Ink, Seriously
I'll believe anything tablet like with e-ink is coming when I see it. They've been pushing rumors for years that color e-ink is ready and coming to an e-reader like the Kindle at any time, and while I think one very expensive reader that wasn't from a big brand in e-readers came out there has been little movement in the e-ink screens used by e-readers for some time, I think we've had e-ink Carta since 2015, with most research mostly going into how to light it or keep it water proof in different ways by Kobo and Amazon.

Commented in What Is the Best Antidepressant?
That patent is just on synthesis, not usage and well past its use-by date now. I expect if the research on psychedelics is eventually honoured, big companies will patent their therapeutic use with depression, whole new patents for however many years they go for these days.

Commented in IBM quits facial recognition, joins call for police reforms
IBM quits facial recognition
well that's retarded
Watson can be used for military purposes, AI in general has been used for decades by the Pentagon to calculate strategic military objectives
Facial recognition is only one application of neural network based AI. what about OpenAI GPT-3 which has 175 billion parameters for language modeling and can be weaponized for propaganda and 'fake news'?
with all tech - once the cat is out of the bag, the genie out of the bottle there's no putting it back
"banning facial recognition" is every bit as nonsensical as "banning knives"
for one thing knives can be useful and for another they cannot be 'banned'
so "banning knives" won't work but demilitarizing the police - not allowing police to use specific kinds of 'knives' - might work better
which shouldn't prevent IBM doing research into the technology

Commented in Ketogenic Diets Alter Gut Microbiome in Humans, Mice

Commented in Make us pay higher taxes, millionaires and wealthy celebrities demand
i just do not understand "i demand for you to make a demand to take away my money"
i mean - why make the demand that someone else make the demand for you to do something? wut? just do something, if that's how you feel about it
its like a nursery school "fight" where 5y olds are each 'daring' the other to do something in order to provoke them into action and then calling the other a coward for not provoking them. it's a fucking stupid way for adults to try and appear 'brave' like that tho
if you want to give away your money, just give it away. nobody is actually preventing you from doing that. if you feel you have more than you need, give the surplus away. right now. go ahead
go to your personal banker and instruct them to give away 90% of your net income earnings for 2019 to any, from a wide range of organizations in need including but not limited to Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, SPCA, Wikipedia and that's not counting virtually any university research program desperately looking for funds in areas of climate change, cancer research etc etc et
heck - you could just cut the check to the government. go to the receiver of revenue and say to them "i wish to overpay on my annual tax return because i have too much and i want to give it back to you"
to me, crying crocodile tears about how "government won't take my money" sounds like a way of phrasing the converse that "i refuse to give my money away unless an external agent forces me to"
i get that "philanthropy doesn't work" in principle and government should tax rich people more. very noble
however you are still in control of and (very much) holding onto your funds, right?
at least rich people who want to hold onto their funds makes sense. they are greedy and selfish and that makes sense to me. rich people who "desperately want" to give away their money away BUT ONLY IF someone else forces them to give it away - makes no sense to me
"i just hate it that i have too much and i blame The Status Quo for refusing to tax me more ;_;"
really? that's your actual complaint? someone else won't legally oblige you to give away your surplus? well why not simply give away your surplus out of your own volition then?
i mean, like, it's bothering you so much, like, all this crazy surplus and stuff and you, like, have nobody to forcefully take it away from you or something... what to do? what to do?
wait a moment... i know! you could give it away!
seriously tho - someone complainbragging they "have too much because the government is bad" is like standing on a boat, shouting at drowning victims nearby: "im sorry you're drowning! you need help from a search&rescue boat... and someone else refuses to confiscate mine towards that end ;_; f*ck this system!"
people couldn't care less about how badly you feel about 'having too much'. it doesn't matter how you feel. it only matters what you do
while we wait for the government to get their shit together and confiscate your boat - just pull the drowning victims into your boat, if it means that much to you. or give your boat away to search&rescue missions who are willing and able to help and pleading for more boats
that is way more useful than writing open letters about how privileged you are to have a boat and it will definitely send a louder message to powers that be than writing open letters signed by your other millionaire buddies
either that or s...
