Who else is here from reddit?
We all know that a lot of the newer people (like me) are joining Snapzu after being on reddit for some time. So who are you? Why did you leave reddit? Did you stay with reddit but are just checking out what Snapzu has to offer?
For me, I'm in the latter category. I just like finding new stuff online, so I thought I'd check this place out. I'm really liking the whole XP concept over here. I squeed a bit when I got my first level up.

I'm from reddit. I'm still on reddit, I've been assessing snapzu's potential as a replacement. So far I like it a lot.

I just joined up yesterday and haven't really had much of a chance to see what's what over here. I'm not really looking to replace reddit per se, but if Snapzu picks up enough traffic and keeps the type of community that I've seen so far, it might end up being a replacement on its own.
I really like the animations and such. I don't know why, they're just fun!
There's a pretty diverse environment here, and as with reddit you can control your feed by the tribes you join and (unlike reddit) the users you follow. Conversation is still fairly civil here as the community is still small enough to discourage bad behavior. The downvote is mostly not used as an "I disagree button" but I see there are people who haven't kicked that habit yet. If you do see a downvote on a snap click it and it should show you why users downvoted it (often because it's a repost).
The ability to cross-post to multiple tribes at the same time is a rather neat feature as well.
I was not aware of that feature. That is really cool. You kind of have to justify your downvotes rather than let people guess.

You don't have to, but people often do which is considerate of them. Others don't, and that's when I suspect they're following the old bad habit of using it as "I disagree." So far it's not a big problem but we'll see what happens as the community grows, especially if we continue the influx from Reddit.
Yeah, but that's the problem with any online community once it grows beyond a certain size. It's sadly inevitable as far as I can tell.
The admins seem to feel confident that the experience system they've put into place will mitigate the damage quite a bit. I'm willing to believe them but suspending judgment until I see the results for myself. At least one bad apple decided to abuse the system either to make a point or troll and they were quick to give that person the boot.
Yeah, we'll have to give it time to see how the chips fall. I can definitely see it mitigating some of the damage, but I'm not sure if it's possible to deal with all or even most of it once you hit that size where a lot of sites fall apart.
Edit: Ooh, nifty, it added the @spaceghoti by itself!
Lets not forget the end result from his little 20 min rampage. There are now limitations to how many downvotes you have based on level. Here is the post describing the change.
It's a good thing, and I applaud your team's response. But I'm still remaining skeptical until I see how the system handles a large-scale downvote squad. ;) It's not that I don't want to believe you, it's just that I have too much experience with Internet trolls.
Totally understand where you're coming from! But lets be realistic for a minute... when it comes to large, organized down vote squads (brigades) I believe any action taken will be purely reactionary as there is no preventive system in the world that is able to just predict these types of events. At most we can be pro-active by tracking certain elements to look for patterns, but at the end of the day we are at the mercy of how good our reaction to this is. The good thing is, as long as the tools exist we can mitigate a lot of the damage and then focus on removing that element from the community.
You know what would make this site better? More Europeans. I think more diversity is always good and the "new Reddit" should not be a US-Centric site with its unending Comcast, Uber, Obama issues. :D
I think the site would be better if people didn't think of it as some type of Reddit 2.0.
Yes, a lot of people have migrated here from Reddit, and it have a lot of similar functions as Reddit, but it could really prosper and thrive out of Reddit's shadow.
For Europeans to come over you have to translate everything into every European language and already have a strong user base for each. Good luck. A lot are not interested in English-speaking forums because most are US-centric.

I think it'd be pretty nice to know who isn't from Reddit. There are very few exceptions.

Not from reddit but I knew of it before joining
I'm also from reddit. I still stop by occasionally, for a few more contentious subreddits that haven't found their way over here. I'm finding Snapzu a really refreshing alternative, design and community-wise.
Yeah, I like this interface but I really want to save this thread. Is there any way to do this?
Welcome! I still check out a couple subreddits that don't have equivalent tribes/communities, but those are not really reflective of reddit as a whole. I left reddit because I could rarely take part in a discussion without feeling dirty, and I got sick of seeing the CEO's name and face everywhere. Maybe I'm just weak!
The CEO's [unnamed] name and face have been all over the front page of snapzu for a couple weeks too...
Is that from all of the spam on the front page last week, or something different?
Just, in general, her name works its way into lots of conversations because her drama has become almost synonymous with reddit. I think it's a really bad look. Regardless of how much she's to blame, they would do well to get rid of her and save their image.
Pao is like Slashdot's Beta (and later Dice's spambaiting) where everyone is complaining but not enough people are leaving.
Makes sense. People do like to bring her up for completely unrelated things.
I'm from reddit. Not intending to leave it, but this site was being mentioned a lot, and it's always nice to discover something new. I hope that snapzu's small community means less memes and the level of discussion is higher here - going to find out!
That's exactly how it is here! You will like it.
I come from reddit too. I liked to layout and design of Snapzu a lot, along with the XP system and the tools to submit links and start discussions.
I'm from reddit also, still am on reddit . figured would try this place out always looking for another cool place to check out :) I like the community and layout here seems like a fun place been enjoying it so far :)
I'm from Reddit! Same user name. Thought I'd try this out because it looked so pretty, a nice change from Reddit. I like Reddit's simplicity, but things seem clean and well organized over here while also being pretty. I like how images are worked in, both for posts and as user avatars. I love the submission page, how I can attach a main link, an image, etc.
First Digg, then Reddit..I still go to Reddit, but only to visit a few subforums I like. I left Digg when the front page became dominated by superusers who gamed it. I've been going less and less to Reddit I got sick of the childish, vulgar, abusive little ninnies on Reddit. I only now go to the subreddits where people are nice to each other and don't see the rest of the sexist, homophobic, racist nonsense. I also got tired of being attacked in pm's and often was afraid to even open the orange envelope cause i never knew what kind of vile tantrum I'd face. I also took their survey and explained what I hated about Reddit and why I'd never tell friends or family to join and I would never fess up that I even went to the site..A lot of people apparently said the same thing.
Yikes! And I thought I was a controversial person there! I never elicited that kind of abuse, at least not on a regular basis.
What subs were you hanging out on before? Didn't know there were communities that were that bad sans hate subs.
I'm from reddit, I ended up here because somebody was discussing reddit alternatives and mentioned that snapzu had an XP/leveling system. That was all I needed to hear.
I really like the XP system too. It really becomes a challenge after lvl 25.
I'm here from Reddit. I think I'm escaping the hordes of people more than anything else. So far, so good.
here!
I haven't left reddit, just checking out what snapzu is. I'm not really active over there, so I guess we will see if I participate over here. I mostly just like to read stuff.
I am. I'm still on it a decent amount, mainly because right now there just isnt enough content on Snapzu to keep my attention for as much as I was/am on Reddit for. It'll get there, its just not there yet. And I stay away from the shitholes there. But, Snapzu has a LOT of potential. I love the experiencing/leveling system, the snap system, being able to post in multiple tribes, etc. Theres a lot of innovation going on here, and I can't wait till more people notice!
What is reddit?
Edit: nvm, did a googles and found a few links to what seems like a late 90's version of the internet.
Whattt? How did you find this place then?
I was looking for Snap Zoo
Bahahah good one had me going for a second
I came from twitter, and yes I know I'm a rare specimen.
I'm here from reddit, loving the functionality of Snapzu!
I'm from reddit, but from the much much smaller communities, so I don't think I behave much like a typical redditor? IDK, I most just browse the AskReddit page from time to time. I'm not that active anymore and this drama with the CEO cinches it for me. I can't handle fat-people-oh-no-drama until summer. I'll just consume myself with blathering on and on or seething in annoyed silence from all the concern trolling.
I ain't time for the reactions reddit can pull out of me.
I'm from Reddit too. Been a member of Reddit for maybe 3 years now? I still visit Reddit but like top comment says, i'm evaluating if Snapzu will be an appropriate replacement, and I hope it does.
I'm also from reddit, yet I go to reddit sometimes. For example, I like to go to the TF2 subreddit, because a lot of games don't have individual tribes.
I'm from Reddit. I haven't abandoned it though, it still serves a purpose for me.
I'm from Reddit but I hate how strict the moderators are on some of the subs I take part in. I won't leave but I am loving Snapzu, it's simple and the users seem a little more welcoming (for now). Look forward to finding a few tribes to be active in
I guess you could say I'm from reddit. I had been looking for something else for a while; the mods got way too heavy with their (often silly) rules, the community was a bit of a circle jerk, and any meaningful discussion was typically buried in a sea of joke answers or down votes being used as a disagree button. I'm glad I found somewhere with more depth and a closer community! I found snapzu in the wake of all the fph drama.
I've been on Reddit foe years and Snapzu for quite a while now.
What I like about Snapzu is the conversations tends to be interesting and civilized.
I also like that Snapzu management will talk to you. Every year or so I run into trouble with Reddit "management." I post too many of my own stories , I post something that a sub-reddit manager dislikes or I get too much karma. Damned if I know why for sure. All I know is that one day, "boom!" I'm shadow-banned. I'm never told it's happened or why it happens. I eventually figure it out for myself. If it wasn't for that I'd have a Reddit karma well above 100,000. As it is I'm well into five figures again and I'm wondering when the ban hammer will come down again.
