Commented in Aston Martin Releases a $74,000 Luxury Racing Simulator
I'd rather just buy a legitimate "racing simulator" -- a car -- and then take it to the track!

Commented in Furniture Row Racing is shutting down; Martin Truex Jr. will find a new team
The takeaway from this is that NASCAR has gone out of its way to say there is nothing bad happening in terms of sponsorship and the costs of competing in the sport, yet Furniture Row Racing has gone from winning a Championship last year and dominating parts of this year to shutting down because they can't find the necessary funds and sponsors to continue running. If a Champion that won many of the races last year and several this year can't find a sponsor what hopes do the others have? NASCAR is in trouble.

Commented in Why did NASCAR change the Daytona 500?
Well the surveys we've been doing at tracks basically come in with one result, races on television have way too many commercials with multiple breaks within minutes of each other and at-track activities are expensive and long. $99 for a 3-4 hour race with a lot of it being single file. On top of that NASCAR's ratings tanked after the introduction of gimmicks to the sport, like the playoff system, when that didn't increase views they went to more people in the playoff then to elimination racing and now they are doing segments, what this has done is drive off the older fans that were bringing their kids to the track, meaning no new millennial and beyond fans can be made because millennials just aren't going to the track.
EDIT: Now in another gimmick announced by several tracks, in order to make that expensive ticket more attractive qualifying and racing will be done the same day, Sundays usually.

Commented in Neil deGrasse Tyson thinks there's a 'very high' chance the universe is just a simulation
In the same way that people enjoy bullfights, cockfights, horse racing, greyhound racing, zoos, etc. I guess smarter beings would enjoy somewhat more elaborate forms of cruel entertainment.

Commented in Are Adult Coloring Books Really a Thing?
I have some. Two beautiful art nouveau books from America 30 years ago, and a bunch of assorted geometrics I picked up in the local charity shop about five years back. I think they are a fantastic idea. Ideal for when I don't have access to my favourite painting by numbers program on the 'puter. I have PTSD. These sorts of occupations are brilliant for putting the brakes on racing thoughts.

Commented in What's Wrong With a Little Free Library?
Some people just like to complain. I have a neighbor that sends out a list of issues they have about every single house in the neighborhood that has thing such as when trash is brought out to be collected, where people park in community parking areas, time of day lawns get mowed, how frequently those lawns get mowed, how many trees should be allowed in a yard, putting offensively colored cars in garages (she doesn't like the dark orange camaro with black racing stripes), starting motorcycles in driveways (they should be PUSHED out of earshot), and so on. You might think it sounds like some batty old lady, but no, a woman in her 50's that has been at it for 2 decades. I feel sorry for her children and pets.

Commented in Goodwood Revival 2013: Kenny Brack in the wild Ford GT40
I enjoy driving, in general, and I love to race. It gets my heart racing and all my senses seem heightened to an extraordinary level, but can you imagine how much stress THIS guy is dealing with? Well, it would be insane for me, but for Mr. Brack it's probably just another Saturday afternoon drive in the rain.

Commented in Now this is a loooong waterslide!

Commented in Video Games are Sports and Here are 5 Reasons Why | GamersFTW
Sport: n. 1. An athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.
Contest: n. 1. a race, conflict, or other competition between rivals, as for a prize.
Sports are contests, but not all contests are sports. Video games are not sports.

Commented in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crash
I stopped following Nascar after they introduced the chase for the cup points race. However what was good about the series was how competitive the racing is. In a race you'll see dozens of lead car changes. As opposed to say Formula 1 where a single car can lead the entire race. Also in the last few laps of a race often the top ten or twenty cars still have a chance at winning. Something that you don't really see in a more traditional road course configuration.

Commented in My Modest Game Collection
Thanks :) I got all the Atari games from a woman who was going to sell them to a used game store in my town for 15 bucks. It was the games, a 2600, two joystick controllers, 2 paddle controllers, 2 racing controllers. He offered her $15... I took her out back and poached her business for $75.

Commented in Snake is returning to mobile devices with a new rewind feature!
Not really know what I feel about the rewind feature. I'll have to try it but as far as I remember I wasn't a big fan of the trend in racing games.

Commented in Kansas To Impose Unprecedented Restriction On Welfare Recipients
ok...
limit withdrawals from ATMs to $25/day: I see the logic here, but like the article mentioned, what about rent? Maybe limit withdrawals to $175/week ($25*7).
ban from using welfare at movie theaters, nail salons, pools and spas, liquor stores, jewelry stores, casinos or racing facilities, tattoo and piercing parlors, cruise ships, and other locations: I'd like to see what these 'other locations' are, but if they fall in line with the rest of the list, I'm 100% behind this. These are all luxury activities that are not necessary for getting back on your feet. Besides, if you can withdraw $25/day in cash, you can save up some money and pay for these things.
36-48 months of lifetime benefits: The federal lifetime limit is 60 months, which is about 10% of the average person's working lifetime. I think 60 months is fair, but I'm also not opposed to limiting it to 36 months for temporary assistance plus an additional 24 months in cases of extraordinary hardship.
2 felonies = no TANF: I think this clause is perfect. A lot of people learn their lesson after one felony and turn their lives around. If someone gets two felonies they haven't learned their lesson. I think the bill should clarify that two felonies should be from two instances. If someone gets multiple felonies from one event I think that should only count as one felony in this bill.
positive drug test AFTER enrolling in drug program = no TANF: I'm fine with this as long as weed isn't included (it probably is). If weed was like most other drugs and left your system in a day or so I would even be OK with including it in the program.
must enroll in job-training programs or part time work within 3 months in order to continue receiving benefits: I like this idea, especially if the state is offering to pay for the job training.
There's a few things that I think need attention, but other than the daily withdrawal rate, I don't see this as being unprecedented.

Commented in Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
It depends how much fuel they put in. As I remember, they didn't refuel much for this one and it was done in less than 15 seconds.
In Formula 1 they no longer refuel and the quickest stop to change all four wheels is 1.923 seconds by Red Bull. http://www.redbull.c...acing-pitstop-record

Commented in NASCAR's Tony Stewart hits, kills rival driver on N.Y. track
The killed driver should never have been on foot on a hot track. Period. That is a basic rule in all auto racing.
