It wouldn't even have to simulate the entire universe. It just has to simulate where we are looking at any given point and time.

But our lives are so boring and often tragic. I have a friend right now being treated for colon caner. How can this be even remotely entertaining?
In the same way that people enjoy bullfights, cockfights, horse racing, greyhound racing, zoos, etc. I guess smarter beings would enjoy somewhat more elaborate forms of cruel entertainment.
Yikes! That's disturbing,but it makes sense. I hope the alien beings enjoy my colonoscopy without sedation in Feb. I'll be sure and smile for it's virtual camera.
Ok, I have a very fertile imagination, but I can't imagine how you can smile from your colon.
