Commented in OPINION | Trump is losing his war against the free press
It is not free press' fault that Trump repeatedly attacks a growing list of Republican senators who raise serious questions about his competence, judgment and fitness for office.
Well in his narcissist way of thinking,he is never to blame, no matter what,he's as innocent as a new born lamb.

Commented in 30 Day Weight Loss Plan: Try It From Today - Diary Of World
It only goes to show that when you're linkjacking, automation should only be one tool in the toolkit. Otherwise you end up with shabbily-linkjacked dreck, as here.

Commented in NutritionData BMI & Calories Burned Calculator
Thanks for the insight. I see how using the BMI is misused to classify and label people i.e. "healthy" v "overweight" v "obese"
So even though it can be abused in this way, it doesn't negate that it could be useful as a metric in the abstract which allows someone (or at least me) to measure and target personal fitness level. Even though the metric levels are not absolute for everyone I can set my own targets and measure my physical fitness progress based on my exercise+diet program.

Commented in Why walking to improve your health is not quite as straightforward as it seems
Many modern smart phones have step counters built right into them with health software that counts your general daily walking, etc. That or some sort of fitness bracelet thingy.

Commented in Fitbit? More Like Quitbit
Pen and paper is all you need to track. I like the concept of being able to get people motivated for fitness but at a certain point I do agree it sucks the fun out of it. More worried about getting steps then just enjoying a hike. As a trainer, clients constantly ask me about these gadgets and I tell them the same thing its only going to be worth it if you want to balance your fitness like your checking account.

Commented in Constructor theory solves the riddle of life
Um. I don't know what to make of this. I feel like I'm missing something.
The author of this article goes on quite a bit about replication and self reproduction, and a purported difficulty in explaining those with "laws that contain no hidden designs," i.e. the laws of physics. But... there is no such difficulty?
If you have a bunch of compounds in a soup, subject to stimuli that cause their random breaking and recombination, and by chance a molecule is produced that happens to interact with others in a way that results in the production of more molecules similar to itself, then soon enough there'll be a lot of those molecules in the soup, isn't this obvious? And the moment one of those copies, again by random chance, happens to feature a change that makes it statistically better at this process of replication, it will dominate the environment, and you have evolution. Give it enough time, and complexity increases from molecules to human beings.
I don't see how this is hard to grasp. In fact, if you are a programmer who's played with genetic algorithms, particularly in a language where code and data are the same thing, like Lisp, then you probably have seen an analogous process unfold before your own eyes: random noise becoming actual executable code, that does useful things, through selection by fitness alone. It just needs time. A lot of time.
So back to this "constructor theory," I guess my problem is that I don't see the point. I'm not saying it's wrong, but rather, how is this not tautological? What do we gain by talking of "constructors," and stating, "everything not forbidden by the laws of physics is possible"? We already know this, it's a truism. What am I missing here?

Commented in Instagram bans #Curvy from its search terms
Wow. Really Instagram? You should see all the disturbing photos that popped up when I searched #cutting (I was looking for fitness pictures) yet #curvy is removed? Their priorities are a little skewed and this is not going to solve anything anyway. I see dicks and vag just hashtagging #selfie.

Commented in /t/wip - A tribe to show off what you're working on
i was envisioned of showing off physical projects like wood work or builds or diy in progress or physical fitness stuff :) I wouldn't recommend showing off code if you're fussed about it being stolen though! discretion as always

Commented in Fitbit? More Like Quitbit
Ultimately, fitness trackers will not make you lose weight. It's just a measuring device. Better than that, it's a reminder. For one brief moment out of your day when you put it on, it reminds you that you should do a little better than yesterday.
I think the people who stopped using their trackers decided they didn't want to be reminded.

Commented in Fitbit? More Like Quitbit
This is why, I believe, the only fitness trackers that will succeed are ones that are integrated into something else useful. Like a watch. The watch I wear was only $200 (now only $100) and it is a smartwatch that uses epaper so the battery lasts 5+ days, and has popular fitness tracking software as an app. My watch is useful for many things, including the fitness tracking, which is why I will keep wearing it.
Why buy a $100 fitness-tracker only, when you can buy a $100 smart-watch with fitness built in.

Commented in Snacking on 'Fitness' Foods May Actually Cause You to Gain Weight and Exercise Less
Agreed. The more I get into fitness, the more I see mainstream foods as a bunch of nonsense. Many of the healthy foods are glorified candy bars. Unfortunately, unlike eating a Snickers, the "fitness bars" give you a feeling of positive accomplishment, which is what this article is conveying...

Commented in MRW fatpeoplehate users try and make a tribe on snapzu
Because quite often viewpoints can be deliberately misinterpreted to be grouped under hate speech. e.g. If someone says "I am 500 pounds and in peak fitness", I am going to call them out on that in a respectful manner. Some people will deliberately mis-interpret that as "Oh he hates fat people and just can't accept that people are happy with themselves" and call it hate speech, and write it off.

Commented in Snacking on 'Fitness' Foods May Actually Cause You to Gain Weight and Exercise Less
Fitness bars are terrible. I doubt there are any regulations that specify what "fitness foods" really are.
Also, just as Muffintop said, they are all full of sugar.

Commented in MRW fatpeoplehate users try and make a tribe on snapzu
You've just described my feelings on the matter perfectly. I think it might be helpful to treat obesity as a disease or injury in the sense that it's something we should help people overcome or recover from. That attitude works better on drug-related issues than marginalization, insults, and punishment. Why not try it out on obesity as well? FPH causes nothing but harm; communities like /r/fitness, /r/running, /t/fitness, and /t/running have the potential to help people become healthier through exercise.

Commented in Apple Orders More Than 5 Million Watches for Initial Run
Apple expects its watch to far outpace other wearable devices, from Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Sony, Motorola and a host of fitness trackers. Research firm Canalys said last week that just 720,000 smartwatches powered by Android Wear shipped in the last six months of 2014.
Interesting. I guess Apple continues to count on the "fanboy" element to impact their product sales, regardless of what any of their competitors have done.

Commented in Putin Is Reviving a Stalinist Fitness Program to Whip Russians Into Shape
I till probably be an unpopular position, but I like the idea of a country becoming active with a fitness program for kids. I'm pretty sure that the US does this as well. But, it's a lot more parent-friendly and soothing.
Here's a page with a little more info on what's going on in the pic. You can use Google translate if you need to.
Sitting in a sauna, then running out in the snow and dumping water on yourself is a pretty normal thing in Nordic countries and Russia.

Commented in Has the remote control led to the downfall of society?
I remember when people used to have to get up to change the channel on the TV. For some, it was the only fitness program they had.

Commented in Man eats 12,000 Big Macs, is still alive
This. I'm training for a fitness competition and I'm eating 1600-1800 calories a day, slowly losing fat with no cardio, and lots of carbs and fats. I don't bring this up in front of my other team mates though because some of them (due to their metabolism) have to eat a lot less calories and carbs (meaning lower energy, more mood swings) and do a lot more cardio. =/

Commented in The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements
I'm a (soon-to-be) fitness competitor, and I switch between bulking (eat over maintenance) and cutting (eating below) and I take a powdered multivitamin when I'm cutting because I'm just not eating enough to get everything I need. If you eat a lot of healthy food I definitely don't think multivitamins are necessary but most people don't eat a varied or healthy enough diet. If you live off chicken nuggets and fries then yeah, I'd recommend a multivitamin.
