Mascot for Snapzu?

That other site whose name we shall not utter has the Snoo and Voat has the Goat. It doesn't look like Snapzu has one and I didn't see any mention of one anywhere - What does everyone think about getting a mascot for Snapzu?

And what should it be? A Red Snapper? Snapping Turtle? A dancing teepee? Likeness of Jeff Probst in Amazon rainforest tribal attire?

There's gotta be at least a few of you creative types out there (because I am certainly not) - let's hear your suggestions!

Edit2: Thanks for all the ideas so far! Keep them coming. So far looks like a 2 way battle between Red Panda and Snapping Turtle (thanks /u/massani for the red panda suggestion and thank you to /u/imnotgoats, /u/niceguynaum and /u/baron778 for the awesome graphics.

Edit3: oh crap...as /u/davidrools points out, Mozilla's FireFox is a red panda... Although I have to say that I like /u/imnotgoats red panda better :)

    Ha, it definitely should be Jeff Probst in tribal attire. I think it should be a cute baby red panda. Something like this.

      I just made this...

      Edit: I must say, I like the general red panda idea. Having a snapping turtle feels a little like making a music video that acts out the lyrics.

      I was sold on the alligator snapping turtle idea, but this might fit the feel of Snapzu better. A snapping turtle is intimidating, but since Snapzu is a friendly, positive, welcoming community, maybe this cute, adorable red panda would work better.

        Ha, definitely. I also get a sort of Chinese vibe from "Snapzu" and think a Red Panda would be pretty fitting.

        EDIT: The cuteness is killing me.

        EDIT 2: Now I'm spending way too much time watching red panda videos on youtube.

        I agree! We need a cute friendly mascot that can give warm hugs just like our community! :D If someone can create a cute snapping turtle mascot, I'm all in for it! But for now, my vote goes to red panda! :)

      I feel like this one would be pretty great, even though a snapping turtle fits better with the site name, i'd much rather have a red panda as a mascot.

      I like a red panda as much as the next guy, but it's also the mascot of the Mozilla browser - Firefox...which is another name for the red panda.

        We'll just make ours fluffier to distance ourselves! It seems that their logo is a mash-up of a fox and red panda anyways.

        wait i don't get it, ok i am dumb but, why is the firefox mascot a panda i always thought it was a fox!! i am confused.

        Damn, can they sue us if our red panda looks nothing like theirs? Or are we going to have to use evolutionary challenged regular panda?

    When Linus wanted a penguin for Linux, he was pretty much alone in his camp. But he stuck to his gun (and he's the BDFL so his say is final). And he was proven right, the penguin was a great idea.

    He said of Windows that it had a fine looking logo but a window has no personality. It can't do stuff.

    And that's the important part about a mascot, it needs to be dressable and customizable and have various tribes make it their own. Snoo works really fine at that. The voat goat, not so much. So if we have a an animal mascot it should be at least somewhat anthropomorphised.

    As to what that should be... a teenage mutant drunken ninja snapping turtle?

      Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen an angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100 mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.

      I like the cartoon version that /u/NiceGuyNaum posted above. It lends itself very nicely to customization. Different patterns or colors for the shell; different hats or headgear on his little head (think a bike helmet for /t/commutercycling or goggles for a motor racing tribe.

    I'm not sure why, but I'm feeling an axolotl....

    Pros:

    Axolotls are compelling-looking creatures. "Axolotl" is a fun word to type. The pun-potential for the word axolotl seems high. I do not know of any weird symbolism or connotations behind axolotls. It's about time an axolotl stood for something. Might raise axolotl awareness.

    Cons:

    I've typed axolotl too many times and now it doesn't seem like a word anymore. Axolotls could still make a bad name for themselves, and then we'd be shackled to a sinking ship.

    Or maybe a charming squirrel named Snappy who isn’t snappy at all as a mascot? That way you stay in the cute mammal theme but don't stray too far away from "s".

    If we want a real animal, the snapping turtle is awesome, but I feel like an oriental dragon would fit really well with the base Snapzu theme :)

    How about no mascot, or anything else similar to Reddit or Voat? Do we honestly need a mascot to complete our browsing experience? How about we leave all things Reddit...with Reddit.
