And that's the important part about a mascot, it needs to be dressable and customizable and have various tribes make it their own. Snoo works really fine at that. The voat goat, not so much. So if we have a an animal mascot it should be at least somewhat anthropomorphised.
As to what that should be... a teenage mutant drunken ninja snapping turtle?
Some people have told me they don't think a fat penguin really embodies the grace of Linux, which just tells me they have never seen an angry penguin charging at them in excess of 100 mph. They'd be a lot more careful about what they say if they had.
I like the cartoon version that /u/NiceGuyNaum posted above. It lends itself very nicely to customization. Different patterns or colors for the shell; different hats or headgear on his little head (think a bike helmet for /t/commutercycling or goggles for a motor racing tribe.
