The take away here is that everything causes cancer, if you live long enough. I'll have my onion rings and die happy.

One thing not mentioned in the article, but that I noticed the first time I came up to KC to visit... Porches.

In the deep south, porches are endemic on older homes. One of the best ways to escape the heat of the house was to go out on the porch and cool off. People would walk by, strike up a conversation, and bang. You have new friends- that just so happen to live within walking distance. I've been invited on the porch on more than one occasion... Sit down, have a nice beverage, and talk. I remember one time I was walking down the road with my guitar and a father and son invited me in to jam with them.

I made it up to the midwest and one of the first things I asked my-then girlfriend was "where are all the porches?". Well, there aren't any. People don't spend any time in the front of their house, opting instead to hide themselves in their backyards.

So, want more friends and acquaintances? Get a porch.

Isn't trash talking during sports pretty much a normal thing? I read what he said and, if it was offensive, it was probably the most mildly offensive thing in history of sports.

Wow. That is so backwards. Sorta like the time K-Mart bought Sears. You could see it happening one way, but not the other.

That being said, Dell does have a lot of file storage offerings for enterprise customers. I think a lot of their stuff ended up being re-branded EMC equipment. This just makes it official, I suppose.

I've used mediaportal and nextpvr before and they worked pretty well. I think Mediaportal had the edge up on ease of setup and use. You might also check out SichboPVR. Seen that mentioned in a few places. I've personally used The HDHomeRun for a bit and it was an amazing bit of hardware.

Sadly, I couldn't get any available DVR packages to support Closed Captions correctly, so ended up having to use a Tivo instead. That worked out of the box and supported Captions without a problem.

The only plugin that I was aware of to cause user problems was Oracle(TM) Java(TM). Basically, Chrome stopped using NPAPI, a good number of people freaked whenever their Java enterprise apps started dying. I'm assuming that Oracle has released a PPAPI plugin by now. Hopefully. The number of browsers supporting NPAPI just decreased by one.

"Extensions" and "Plugins" are a murky sort. Here's a quick blog post on the differences between them.

The title is sorta shit, and I didn't read the article, so here' my take on what's going on.

Two decades ago, Netscape Corporation came up with a standard for web plugins. It was named NPAPI. It was popular. Caught like wildfire and basically everyone supported it. It was an okay standard. But like any code, it had it's own pile of bugs and security holes.

After google released Chrome, they designed a ground-up implementation of NPAPI and named it PPAPI. A lot of their cleanup was to make it easier to write plugins, to have cross-platform plugins, as well as security.

Recently, Chrome disabled it's use of NPAPI. 100% of running plugins use the new PPAPI, instead. This did affect some people since some shitty third parties (I'm looking at you, Oracle) only had NPAPI plugins available. Now, there's a mad dash for them to move their plugins to PPAPI.

Originally, the Netscape folks didn't want to move to PPAPI. They're probably the last holdouts.

For the normal web user? You probably won't see a real difference at all. Most browsers have an in-built method to install and update new plugins.

After the 2008 debacle, me and the wife move all of our accounts to a local Credit Union. It was a pain in the ass to move (juggling accounts for a month or two), but it ended up being the right decision. Still is.

Bernie Sanders says break them up and resurrect the Glass-Steagall Act that once separated investment from commercial banking.

Amen. The blanks are far too big and powerful to allow them to exist in their current state. It just takes one to trip up and the economy will shatter again just like it did in 2008. We damn near went into a economic Depression. Hell, the Federal interest rates are still shit today.

    Bring back Glass-Steagall, Bernie.

Sorry to sound pedantic here, but it's not really "Iron Man-style". Doesn't look like a powered suit. That being said, it does look pretty neat.

Companies patent random weird shit all the time. Stuff like this helps bulk up their 'patent portfolio' without having to construct any of it. Since the patents have to be public, they can also use it as a sort of 'litmus test' for design ideas. Lots of responses from social media loving it? Well, then. Let's build it out. Lots of angry people? Well, just leave it in the portfolio for now.

Love CAH. We have the entire set, all the expansions, Crabs Adjust Humidity, and some others as well. Fun game if you have asshole friends. That's a pretty nice thing to do, too.

Every hospital bathroom I've been in all have a pull string over the toilet. Something goes fucky, you can pull the string and the calvary is on it's way. Public restrooms, that's not the case. Probably not the case in employee bathrooms (but that's an assumption).

The wife's parents lived in Ocala, FL for a while. We visited them on vacation one year and had the opportunity to pass through The Villages on the way to Orlando for the day.

It was so weird watching golf carts trundling down the road, in the line at McDonalds, going through CVS drive through to pick up medicine, etc. We just rode around a bit and marveled at the number of golf carts everywhere. It was like driving into a freaky alternate universe where the internal combustion engine never took hold.

Apparently, one unexpected (to me) benefits of The Villages is the voting bloc. Apparently, people who live in The Villages are majority 'far-right'. So, they offer pretty much a slam-dunk election for any republicans whom want to run in Florida. But, most of FL is already deeply republican, so unsure how much it really matters in the long run.

    Anyway, that's my story.

I wonder if she's a gambler. The wife's aunt had a habit of overdrafting. Whenever her brother died, she was named head over his estate and to pass along the money to hew nephew. She completely drained the boy's bank account and gambled all of the money away. Today she is living with her daughter after her husband left her, and her family wouldn't let her stay with them anymore due to her problem.

Don't most heart attacks happen on the toilet? The force of straining and all of that. I think I recall reading that somewhere. Without further evidence, I'd assume dude went up to the third floor bathroom, locked himself in, heart attack / aneurysm while in the middle of using the restroom. Took a few days for the hospital to locate him since he probably went to a seldom-used bathroom.

The only take-away I have for this is to "make sure you get your fiber".

    Aah, well. It sucks.

Good guess! I lived in Mississippi for several years growing up, so I'll give you credit for it.

But, anywhere in the Southeast would have done nicely. Good job!
