Commented in Microsoft and Sony sign deal to keep Activision's Call of Duty on PlayStation
Oh wow, ain't this wonderful news for gamers? I don't usually play Call of Duty but since it's now available on PlayStation, maybe I'll go ahead and give it a try. I just wish I have enough money to buy the game when it arrives.

Commented in Over 100 PlayStation VR2 games are in development, Sony says
As per my knowledge, Sony had not officially announced the development of a PlayStation VR2 or any new virtual reality headset. Additionally, I do not have any information about the number of VR games in development for Sony's VR platform. It's always a good idea to check the official website or sources close to the company for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Commented in Nintendo Unveils SNES Classic – Coming Out in September, Includes Unreleased Star Fox 2
It was a direct sequel to the first game on SNES that was about 95% finished, until Nintendo scrapped it very late in development, because they feared that the game's primitive 3D graphics would be compared to the superior graphical capabilities of the PlayStation, which came out around time time of Star Fox 2's near-release.
Of course, leaked builds of the game eventually came out, and the game was pretty much almost finished.

DirectX and "Writing to the metal"
When comparing performance, many people have noted that game consoles, especially Sony's (NYSE:SNE) Playstation 4, are capable of creating a very impressive experience in spite of using hardware that is several generations behind what is currently available as graphics hardware in the PC market. The advantage is in the lower cost of building consoles over PCs for games.
Additionally, games that were simultaneously developed for PC and PS4/Xbox One have tended to have more glitches. Time Warner's (NYSE:TWX) Batman: Arkham Knight was a classic example of the problems that programmers have faced trying to optimize the game on what should have been easily more powerful hardware. But even on cards that cost $600, the game would stutter and crash during dramatic moments.
This happens because there are all those hardware possibilities with the PC market. But with consoles, every one of them has the exact same hardware in each box. Software programmers can optimize the code that they are writing knowing that the outcomes will be uniform across the board, and will not have as many problems with bugs. They call this "Writing to the metal" internally. The longer a console has been in the marketplace, the better programmers become at making it more efficient.
Microsoft started to address this issue with DirectX a number of years ago. They started helping 3D hardware manufacturers like Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Radeon (NASDAQ:AMD) create standards for what they were releasing. As the years passed, each of these companies was able to write closer and closer to the metal.
And that's as far as I could get...

Commented in How do you feel about this?
Coincidentally yesterday I was deeply (but quietly) entertained to watch four children, the oldest about eight, running laps round the block while waving "weapons" and yelling pretend threats to each other. Eventually I heard "I won" and off they went on another mission. They most probably have tvs, games consoles and the like but it's the summer holidays so the young ones go outside. I think young childrens make believe games are still able to work well where there are places to play near home and away from traffic. The biggest problem here is that since the media started making a really big stink over missing children and child molesters, a large proportion of the population took that to mean that there was a sudden upsurge in numbers due to the internet. Not so, we simply weren't very well informed back in the 'dark ages'. So kids don't get to wander as far afield as they once did. Add that to all day childrens tv, not just two hours as I remember, and no wonder younger kids stay in more.
Older children into teenage years seem to be the ones that are surgically attached to xbox and playstation, because by that age they have got quite good. I don't think it's so much because it is a screen, but because the screen is the medium on which the good games are currently played. All that getting out boxes, setting things up, arguing over rules, putting the game away and losing important pieces just can't compete.
So, what I have observed is that younger kinds are more likely to want to be outside playing and don't have all that much interest in stuff on screen, provided that they are encouraged to go out and play. Otherwise they want to sit in front of the 'goggle box' all day. The older they get, the more likely it is that a screen will claim them, but it will probably be an interactive one. And then they want Netflix...
But, some people will always ignore a tv in favour of a book, or they'll do something creative. Not doing that is more down to personality or lack of opportunity when young, not to mere availability of a screen. Some of us (ie me) grew up without tv, read inordinate numbers of books, watched lots of tv as an adult the suddenly! computers! the internet! my creative and artistic mother would be horrified! After all, most people do not have exciting and creative jobs, and those that do seem willing to struggle against all odds to do so. Imagination is not something we all have in abundance. Personally, I'd rather kids learned to use some common sense, but I was always an unusual child :)

Commented in [NA] Playstation.Blog - PS Plus Games for August 2015
Those are two completely separate services.
Playstation Plus is the equivalent of Xbox Live Gold. If you're not familiar with any of those, then its basically a license that allows you to play Online games... With the added bonus of getting free games for your Playstation devices every month!
Playstation Now is a game streaming service, similar to Onlive or Nvidia's Grid. You can subscribe for a monthly fee or rent individual Playstation 3 games and you can play them on Playstation Now certified devices such as the Playstation 3 itself, PS4, PS Vita, Playstation TV, Sony Blu-Ray players or some Smart TVs (Sony and Samsung are supported, I believe)

Commented in Playstation Mobile shutting down in a few hours!
It would seem that Playstation Mobile is still alive and well! I have no idea what Sony is planning to do, but for the time being make sure you have everything you want from there because it could go down at any minute.
Edit: Playstation Mobile has finally shut down. You will be able to download your games until September 10th... Welp, it was good while it lasted. GG guys.

Commented in Wii U’s End—And a New Nintendo Console—Might Be Here Soon
I feel that at this point they have completely given up on competing with other consoles like xbox or playstation. Realistically, their best bet is to try to become the "Family Device" that is relatively cheap and simple to use.

Commented in Final Fantasy IX - The Place I'll Return to Someday
Definitely play 9, I honestly enjoyed it more than 7 or any other PlayStation era Final Fantasy. The characters are fantastic and the gameplay reminded me of the SNES Final Fantasy games. Even though it doesn't get as much recognition as others 9 remains my second favorite in the series behind 6.

Commented in Feature wise whats better? Ps4 or xbox one.
I feel that the PS4 has more power, but XB1 has more console 'features' like on the menu. But they're about just as stable as each other...but XBL doesn't go down as much as Playstation Network, either. Hard to say, really. They both have strong points.

Commented in Feature wise whats better? Ps4 or xbox one.
Well, if it's features you want, and not a gaming system just for, well, gaming then the Xbox One is your man. The X1 may not be the most powerful this current generation but it can do much more than the PS4 can. Since it's running a modified version of Windows 8 you can expect to find similar features such as "app snapping" which allows you to run two different apps at the same time or native Skype support. It also works really well as a multimedia system if you want to use it for movies or TV/Cable. Also, if you owned an Xbox360 during last gen you're in luck because it was announced that the Xbox One will have backwards compatibility with some games. Though this is coming from someone who favors the PlayStation 4 as a gaming system (there's many good reasons, but I won't get into that right now since features is the main focus here :P)

Commented in Feature wise whats better? Ps4 or xbox one.
I've been in the Sony camp since the original Playstation and have never owned an Xbox. I've held off picking sides this generation, mainly because both consoles were in rough shape for a while. Fortunately, I think E3 restored hope for fans of both consoles. Lots of things to be excited about. But if I had to pick sides right now, I would probably move to camp Xbox. I'd rather have great software on weaker hardware than vice versa, and Microsoft has done a great job of repairing their image since the One's disastrous launch.

Also, I'd love a new Metroid. Or two.

Commented in Microsoft Faces Real Problem if PS4 Drops to $349, Needs To Decouple Kinect From Xbox One
I think Microsoft is in a really tough spot with this one. It really isn't as simple as getting rid of the Kinect that comes with every Xbox. It's pretty well known that the reason that it's included is so that devs have more incentives to integrate the Kinect into their games. Microsoft may have to start selling their consoles at a loss in order to get back into the game with Playstation.

Commented in My Xbox One Won’t Let Me Swear
This is also a feature on the PS4. I was playing 2k14 while talking with a friend on party chat, then I got flagged for a technical foul for swearing. At least the Playstation will only pick up on it when you have a mic plugged in
