Commented in At Least Five People Are Dead In A Shooting At Fort Lauderdale Airport
I think it is OK for me to rant now. As this scene unfolded I quickly turned on the news to see what was happening like many people. Within an hour of the first report MANY news stations brought out the pundits and "experts" to give their views on what happened and how this happened. But even though the were "experts" they were not at the scene, they did not have ALL the information, and they were basically just yammering about the possibilities. FOX news, CNN, MSNBC, insert news channel name here, all did it. The practice of pulling out conjecture by the news stations is getting pretty bad. Would it have been so bad to just report what was happening and give updates after the information was vetted? I don't care what the so called experts think so soon in the report because they do not have the information available to actually be experts on the situation. They have not received the police or federal investigation reports because there were none to give and the investigation was still on going. Even before the Airport was deemed safe by officials and law enforcement I was bombarded by the news saying "The man was unstable and mentally ill", "He heard voices telling him to do it for ISIS!", "There were warning sign early on that he would do this!" and other crap. For gods sake can't we just report on the tragedy then wait for the investigation to give us the facts? Is that to much to ask?

Commented in How to keep Alexa from buying a dollhouse without your OK
I was talking to my wife about this post and said the word "Alexa" and "buy it" and Alexa bought a previous music selection that I had asked her to play this morning. Of course this wasn't the song I wanted her to play I wanted the original He^rt by Starcadian which was already in my library. Damn ye Alexa! EDIT: I forgot to add this. You can turn off voice purchasing in the Alexa app if you have it loaded on your phone. Or you can add a 4 digit voice pin which would allow you to have to say the pin to confirm the purchase. I did not have this set up because, well I didn't think that she would string a set of words together so easily. Half the time I ask Alexa to do something she fumbles about.

Commented in Trump Team Says They'll Kill the Open Internet "As Soon As Possible"
I'm not sure that's true. One thing I am sure of though, is that if some scheme can't abide by the principle of net neutrality, then that scheme is a rip off. Ask yourself, did the magic powers of markets automatically solve the problem of child labor? Do markets automagically solve monopolies? Rent seeking? Highway robbery?

Commented in How Clinton lost Michigan — and blew the election
With Clinton’s team ignoring or rejecting requests, Democratic operatives in Michigan and other battleground states might have turned to the DNC. But they couldn’t; they weren’t allowed to ask for help.
The Brooklyn command believed that television and limited direct mail and digital efforts were the only way to win over voters
This is astonishing, not following campaign 101 on the ground game. Turning away people looking to help because those methods didn't prove "scientifically" valid, not talking with the UAW and other unions then being upset they didn't want to help with "Get out the Vote"... this is horrible way to do things. I know in some local elections I've been swayed to vote for a candidate because they bothered to knock on my door and talk with us, not give us literature and say this is how it should be but actually say why they don't agree. I just don't get tossing out the ground game and then being surprised that the tried and true of old still works. I also love how they point out the campaign continued to go with "the model" data that also was wrong about the state in the primaries where she lost to Sanders there too.

Commented in 'I Trusted them Fully': Man, 92, says own Children Took his Millions
My ex-father in law was a successful entrepreneur that built a successful film distribution company in Latin America. His children grew up up going to private school and very privileged. One of them calls his dad a selfish bastard as he asks for money so he can live the life of a "starving" artist in Buenos Aires, and the other had the gall to ask his dad for his inheritance. Since the dad was a workaholic, he showed his kids affection by buying them whatever they wanted instead of teaching them the value of hard work and appreciation. My husband on the other hand never asked his dad for money because he was embarrassed by his brother's behavior. His dad is a very likable and charismatic man and it's horrible that his kids are basically holding their breath until the man dies. There is only so much you can do as a parent to instill values in your child. By giving his kids everything he never had growing up poor, the dad failed to teach them grit, hard work and appreciation . Hindsight is 20/20. At some point you the parents stop being responsible for their children's selfish nature. Sometimes selfish narcissistic parents end up having loving and sensitive children.

Commented in The Need to Hold Saudi Arabia Accountable
How many Iranians tried to bomb the WTC in 1993? How many Iranians flew airplanes into the WTC on 9/11? Now, let's ask how many Saudis were involved. Oops, that's a subject we don't discuss because the Saudis own so many of our politicians. How many of our politicians are owned by Iranians? Yeah, that's what a thought. Mystery solved.

Commented in San Francisco Aldermen Do Little To Impede Homicidal Illegals
Illegals? Editorialize much? For comparison, the actual title at the story reads:
“San Francisco city officials to ask Kate Steinle’s family to dismiss lawsuit”
Even the story uses the phrase ‘undocumented immigrant.’ Or is this what you mean by an epistle?

Commented in No, identity politics is not to blame for the failures of the left
Just about done editing that comment yet? The reason I ask is because the last time I bothered to look, you were giggling over how you hadn’t really meant racial segregation. Which is a really surprising thing for you to try to get away with, because you specifically mentioned:
It’s worked so well for Dem’s black constituents.;-(
Or at least that’s what that comment used to say, anyway.

Commented in How fake news online skewed the US election
FTA:
“We’ve created this monster. And look, I’m a conservative talk show host. All conservative hosts have basically established their brand as being contrasted to the mainstream media. So we have spent 20 years demonising the liberal mainstream media. And by the way, a lot of it has been justifiable. There is real bias.
“But at a certain point you wake up and you realise you have destroyed the credibility of any credible outlet out there. And I am feeling, to a certain extent, that we are reaping the whirlwind of that. And I have to look in the mirror and ask myself, ‘To what extent did I contribute?’”

Commented in 56-car pileup in China leaves 17 dead
Asians are shitty drivers. If you didn't know that before, you do now. Oh, you disagree and think I'm being racist? Ask yourself this question- How many successful Asian race car drivers are there in the world?

Commented in Fascist America, in ten easy steps
This has been going on for a while. It's not like suddenly all these things are happening. If you ask me, I don't see why Trump is more of a fascist than Bush or Obama.

Commented in Don't call Clinton a weak candidate: it took decades of scheming to beat her
She’s the most impressive, the most thoughtful, and the most honest writer working today, if you ask me. I find myself utterly blown away by her, again and again and again. Which is another reason why this feckless, unknowing, uncaring, sexist apologia for Hillary Clinton — of all people! — seems so bizarrely shallow.
It’s yet another reminder that if you can’t bring yourself to believe that people would be that stupid, think again because there’s probably something you’ve misunderstood.

Commented in Protests Against Looming Trump Presidency Erupt on Streets in Cities Across the Country
I suspect that not much will change. The same group who sits down with every POTUS and explains how the world really works will sit down with Trump and after a few minutes of them explaining how they will dismember everybody in his family, he will play along. Just like they all do. I'm not sure that is what happens, but I suspect it is something like that. There is no other logical explanation as to why a presidential candidate suddenly forgets every promise they make as soon as they are sworn in. And, make no mistake, every single item in his "Contract With America" has already been pushed aside. I hope I'm wrong. I hope he does make some of the changes he promised. But, as I like to say: Ask for Blue Boy, I'll be the guy in the corner holding my breath.

Commented in ‘Lucifer’ Gets Full Season 2 Order By Fox
Well they need to start playing up the supernatural in this thing because at this point it's just become a police procedural and that's going to get boring, just ask the show about the immortal medical examiner a year or so ago.

Commented in Republican talk of holding a Supreme Court seat vacant for four years is without precedent
At this point I have to ask, when did the constitution become cheap toilet paper? I don't think the founding fathers could imagine the current situation in their worst nightmare.

Commented in Russia gets voted off UN Human Rights Council
Re: Voice of America link about "More than 80 human rights organizations"
Thank goodness they did, too. We can't have the good name of the UN Human Rights Council be sullied. Surely not after Saudi Arabia's done such a brilliant job heading it up lately. Just ask fellow current members China, Cuba, Mexico and Qatar.
Or newly electrd members Egypt and Iraq. Of course, the U.S. hasn't been on it for some years now. Not sensing the same opprobrium from the Voice of America over that, though. Wonder why that is.

Commented in The Sex-Obsessed Poet Who Invented Fascism
So, there's this little-known (in the English-speaking world) Spanish author called Enrique Jardiel Poncela, who wrote a book called "the tour of God". In one part of the book God is interviewed by a mortal and asked several questions. One of the questions is: "Which, according to the divine knowledge of your holiness, is the ideal government form for the States of Earth?" To this question God responds: "The ideal form of government for the States of Earth is the dictatorship. To govern there's only one path: for a single, intelligent man to create at the same time a fair law and terrible penalties for breaking it. And, when the law is broken, the penalty should be applied without appeal or pardon, and for eternity". Then he adds "But it was silly to ask me that question".

Commented in When Librarians Are Silenced
"As Woolfolk rounded a pillar, several of the guards grabbed Woolfolk from behind. Woolfolk was kicked in the leg (resulting in a torn knee ligament), slammed against the pillar, and thrown into a chair. When he bounced out of the chair onto the floor, the guards forced him back into the chair, and handcuffed him."
This was done to a fucking librarian who had dared say that someone had a right to ask provoking questions at a public forum. I have to ask, where do they get police officers from? Do they carefully select sociopaths and thugs for the job?
The best part is how they're allowed to regulate themselves and have all sorts of legal protections to do whatever they want. Not to mention access to cutting-edge military weapons and broad license to use them.
