With Clinton’s team ignoring or rejecting requests, Democratic operatives in Michigan and other battleground states might have turned to the DNC. But they couldn’t; they weren’t allowed to ask for help.

The Brooklyn command believed that television and limited direct mail and digital efforts were the only way to win over voters

This is astonishing, not following campaign 101 on the ground game. Turning away people looking to help because those methods didn't prove "scientifically" valid, not talking with the UAW and other unions then being upset they didn't want to help with "Get out the Vote"... this is horrible way to do things. I know in some local elections I've been swayed to vote for a candidate because they bothered to knock on my door and talk with us, not give us literature and say this is how it should be but actually say why they don't agree. I just don't get tossing out the ground game and then being surprised that the tried and true of old still works. I also love how they point out the campaign continued to go with "the model" data that also was wrong about the state in the primaries where she lost to Sanders there too.
