How will Snapzu keep the servers online? I haven't seen any ads.
I tried to find this answer, but my searching skills didn't turn up anything definitive.
I know many people hate to think of monetization, but it's important to ensure that expenses are being covered otherwise the site will shutdown or sell to someone else. Are you thinking of a Patreon system or something like reddit gold? Other ideas.

This was an answer I got a few weeks back when I joined. http://snapzu.com/t/lounge/tribepost/UFWOI2J/second-day-impressions/comments/2549
Interesting. Are they just paying out of pocket right now?
If we can assume that this is what is implied when he says "will think about ways to split the bills", then yes, it seems so.
Way back when, that was the norm of websites.
Way back there were less users and less interactivity. Unless the site admins are rich and benevolent it's not really a scaleable solution these days. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course.
Why do we ought to scale though? I'd be perfectly happy with Snapzu having the character of a medium size subreddit.
The site will have to scale because there will be too much traffic for the servers operate effectively. I suppose they could refuse new members at a certain point ,but that's counter productive in my opinion.
I think they should set up a PayPal or a bitcoin wallet in the meantime.
Yea, at least operate a bitcoin to accept donations to build up a reserve just in case.
They should at least let us pay for the hosting/bandwidth costs. A simple monthly progress bar would do the trick. This would even empower the community with a sense of ownership. People who throw a few bucks at a service generally care about it a bit more, which is positive.
I feel lots of people will be more than willing to help in the bitcoin department.
I'm sure plenty of people, including myself, would be interested in supporting Snapzu through BitCoin, Patreon, or PayPal donations.

I think they answered the question over at http://snapzu.com/t/blog/tribepost/FUS6JPF/tr...er-upgrades-donations-for-monthly-server-fund
I just donated via PayPal.
I don't mind just leaving a paypal button on the side with how much they need per day or heck per week and we donate that way. I want this website to do well as well as grow. The threads are pretty great right now, I just want it to grow.
They talk about it on their 2014 overview: http://snapzu.com/teamsnapzu/snapzu-a-year-in-review-and-what-to-expect-in-2015
Since it is still on their plans and there is a lot of people moving, it might be a good time for people to suggest these kind of ideas on http://snapzu.com/t/ideasforsnapzu/.
I would rather the whole site go behind a $5/mo paywall then have ads. I just got here and I already like it better than I ever liked reddit.
I'd prefer any cost not to be mandatory. Some great IAmA's on Reddit were by people unlikely to purchase a site subscription. Homeless guy,ex-con struggling to make due, etc. I think optional subscriptions can sustain a good product.
