Still looking for a new home. Excited to try Snapzu out!

I was a lurker on Reddit. I tried out Voat, contributed more than my 2 years on Reddit, and then started to fall back into my lurking habits... I want to contribute. Just from looking around a bit it appears that Snapzu might be exactly what I'm looking for to keep me engaged! I'm very excited to have found this place, and to have finally got an invite code!

So any tribe suggestions for this newbie? I have a lot of interests. What are your favorites?

Thanks for having me!

Good luck, hope you stay! I love this site so much ATM that I'm gushy about it.

I'm not going to suggest any existing tribes (of which there are tons of great ones), rather suggest you think of something you're passionate about and create it as a new one! This is an exciting time of growth for snapzu, and I can't think of a better way to engage with it.

Clean up on aisle 3. We have a gusher.

Oh, and @imnotgoats - somewhat relevant to your above comment and contradicting my previous discourse with you, I now have set up a tribe, over at /t/humour (some cretin had spelt the existing one without the penultimate character for some unknown reason). Come visit! I'll put the kettle on.

Hah. Is it a surreptitious way to insinuate that it's for UK humour, or just stubbornness?

The first one. It's not so subtle when you visit it ;)

In that case, well played old bean.

Let me know if you need a custom flag. ;)

If it's a home you want (you know, where you fight with your siblings but still love them at the end of the day), then I think you've found it! :) Welcome!

I tried out Voat, too for about 3 weeks, but I wasn't really feeling it that much. It reminded me of too much of reddit; I wanted an entirely different experience. Glad you like it here. :)

I'm thinking that's the exact reason I'm liking this place so much. It's totally different!

welcome, what i like about Snapzu is that it is calmer, people seem nice (its not that they were not on reddit) but reddit got out of hand, most posts on frontpage would just trainwreck into stupid comments on the top, everyone tried and most of them failed into trying to be smart or cheeky. Over here i don't see none of that, over here there is actually discussion, it is indeed good to be around.

as for your question, well what interests you? search for a tribe about it, there is no tribe? create it :)

When I first started here I had opened two tabs from Reddit, Snapzu and Voat. Voat was down so I started on Snapzu. 15 minutes later I closed the Voat tab, never even looked. I hope you enjoy Snapzu as much as I do.

As other users have said, you came to the right place. Welcome!

Just to help you get started, there are lots of things that are different here. For example, the snap system is pretty unique- you would do well to play around with it a bit. Also the use of the down vote here is taken very seriously. Use it to indicate that content violates site rules, is spam, or is not relevant. Do not use it to indicate disagreement or dislike. A good place to get your bearings would be the FAQ and just so you know what to avoid, check out the Site Rules too.

Other than that, glad you came to Snapzu and I look forward to seeing the content that you add to our community!

Thanks a bunch! I love the down vote being used in that way! I'm really liking what I'm seeing here.

      Thanks for the welcome!

    Welcome aboard!

What kind of interests do you have? I think you'll find that a lot of the smaller subreddits are now being created over here. And if they're not, now is your time to start one up!

Where do I start?? Music, gaming(video and tabletop), programming... I like learning new and interesting things. So I never know what I might be getting into from week to week.

Something I've found really useful is that the search here is awesome, and it's how I've been able to find some tribes.

        Search for games tribes.

        Programming

I've actually found neat tribes just by surfing the home page with no filters applied.

As for creating your own tribes, you can do that from your "Tribes Memberships" page.

        Have fun! :)

Thanks again! I can't express how excited I am about this place!

This is pretty much the same as my experiences - mainly lurked on Reddit for many years, occasionally posting only a few replies in that time.

I've been poking around Snapzu for a few days, and I really like everything I've seen so far! :)

I thought I liked Voat, but the content is lacking. Too many posts about Reddit and "MFW" posts about Voat being down... This place is refreshing.

To me, Voat seemed like a good alternative, but it just felt mainly like "Reddit re-skinned"... not that there's anything wrong with that - there's a reason Reddit is one of the top sites on the Internet! :)

Snapzu definitely seems to have far more interesting incentives to participate other than to increase a karma score. I only recently read about the personal and Tribe leveling systems, which are a really neat feature. I've also skimmed over the 5.1 patch notes for the platform, and I'm quite impressed. That's a lot of new functionality to cram in, and I'm already liking some of the planned functionality for 5.2.

Very impressed with everything so far! :)

I'll add that the format is much more refined and appealing. I've been here only for 4 days and still learning the ropes but I see no reason whatsoever to go back to Reddit. I wish I knew about this site sooner.

This thread was the first time I've heard Voat mentioned here on Snapzu and it reminded me that it existed (the last time I checked was a couple days ago and it was down) I went over there for a peek and you are absolutely right. It's like a mini Reddit clone, I was looking for something a little different. Glad I hopped unto this boat instead.

Same, I'm kind of liking it - I think - The magazine view seems pretty neat!
