Went to Fogo de Chao with 4 friends. When the after dinner drinks came around I had already said I was buying dinner for everyone. So the waiter suggested shots of Patron Platinum. I figured never heard of that version so why not!? After 4 rounds of shots I happened to ask what they cost. At which time I was informed they are $40 each!!!! So needless to say I turned a $160 meal into an $800 before tip. Lesson: always ask how much anything costs with "Platinum" in the name.

You should have said, "Here's a tip: warn people these things cost $40 a shot before they order them!"

Yeah she just wanted to make more money. 15% of the $160 shots is $24 on its own.

No, the meal was $160. The shots were $640. The tip off of that was $96 at 15%!

As someone that has spent a good amount of time in various countries, ALWAYS ask for the price before even agreeing to purchasing it. Better if you can look somewhat disinterested.

Probably around $200 for a dozen friends. The Spaghetti Factory in Denver wasn't terribly expensive at the time but there were a lot of people in the party. Since I called them together I paid for the meal.

Oh, for the days when I could afford to do that sort of thing. ;)

I bought myself and three of my friends Arby's meat mountain sandwiches. Not too interesting for this thread, I bet, but we were all pretty satisfied.

I once bought del taco for myself and my roomates. We all paid for it in vomit and pain about 30 hours later.

I spent over 300 bucks on dinner one afternoon, paid for the whole family and they ordered what they wanted. Won a few hundred bucks on a scratch and win, figured I'd share the wealth.

$800 on an open tab at a bar on Valentine's day after all the couples left from dinner and it was just us single people around.

I suspect the numbers will get larger, but I feeling like a high roller right now.

I spent $300 on a dinner for two. I've spent $400 on a bar tab for a large group, that was dumb but I was drunk.

I won big in Vegas once and went to Tao (An expensive asian restaurant) and bought a Kobe steak for $30 per oz (x 8 oz). Total bill was over $350.

I took my family and a friend's family to Fogo de Chao after said friend and I graduated boot camp. Our 14-person table enjoyed dinner, and dessert. When it came time to pay, they refused to split the check. After watching everyone try to come up with enough cash to throw in on the one check, I threw down my credit card for the $500 check and left. BEWARE if you are going with friends/family. Be sure you know if they will split or not.

Went down to Oklahoma City for a wedding. Me and the wife tearing up the hotel bar 150 bucks a night for a couple of nights. Should be filed under the technical "liquid dinner" provision.

Over $200 for dinner at the Seattle Space Needle restaurant. The food wasn't that great, but it was a fun experience.

I took a around seven of my family members to dinner at Fogo de Chão in Denver. The total bill was around $430.

In subsequent holidays, I've taken my family out to much better dinners for much less.

Based on this thread, Fogo de Chão is the place to avoid...

A long time ago, I got really intoxicated with a few co-workers and went to a pub. I don't remember anything except my bill was almost $200 and there was lots of wings and cognac.

    Valentines Day.

The Mrs and I enjoy trying new/chic places, living in SoCal there's a number of high end places to go, so we picked one that was on our list, and the night ended at around $160? -- Drinks, several appetizers, an entree to share, and dessert.

Dining out, for me, has always been more about the experience, than just the food. Given, I expect an expensive meal to be prepared better, and made with better ingredients. But how are you entertaining my palate with sweet + savory? How does atmosphere make me feel?

I went to a somewhat fancy restaurant with a group of friends a few years ago. The average bill per person was around $100 (to be fair, it did include some alcohol).

The sad thing is that that best thing about the entire meal was the alcohol. The food was okay, but I definitely could have prepared a better meal at home (including the alcohol) for everyone in the group for at least half our total price (and I'm only a decent cook).

I don't think I've had anything expensive enough for me to make note of it, but I've been to the Melting Pot a few times (yum) and that's always pretty pricey.

I still live with my parent, so luckily for me the most expensive meal i paid for was a semi grade restaurant for a date

Ok, not the absolute most, but considering the quality: Outback 2 months ago. I used to LOVE it, but couldn't afford it, so I would only go on my birthday. Except, I missed the last two. When I went recently, I asked for a rib-eye cooked medium rare. They brought me what looked like a microwaved piece of leather. I sent it back and requested they give me a burger instead. The waitress asked me how I wanted it cooked. I again requested medium-rare. They brought out a well-burned, tasteless patty of mediocre burger. An over-cooked boca burger at home would have been better. I'm never going back there again.

Not sure if it's the most expensive I've ever paid, but certainly the most expensive recently ... About $475 for three at The Hobbit http://www.hobbitrestaurant.com/ ... an outstanding dining experience

There are so much restaurants in my city (Montreal has around 1 restaurant for 375 persons) that I can't really justify paying too much for that. There are so many great choices at under 40$ per head, tax and tip included (30% of the price, taxes are high around here!), that I mostly visit those places. Hey, one of my favorite joints in town is some Pho place downtown, 15$ tax and tip included, best soup I ate ever.

However, I paid once around 150$ for some dinner with my girlfriend in the first years, until I realized it wasn't worth it - she doesn't really care for luxury... She pretty much hates seeing my blowing my money on anything, actually...

Valentines day at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo (where they filmed a lot of Lost in Translation). It was our honeymoon and we went all out. £400 all out for the two of us. It was an amazing night though :D
