    Are tribes allowed that are not using the english language primarily?

      Our platform currently does not support other languages. We understand how important it is to allow for this, so we are working on multiple-language support where members will be able to specify their main language and the language of the content being shared. Sadly, this is one of the many scalability issues we are faced with, so for now in the interests of the overwhelmingly English speaking community, please refrain from posting content in other languages.

        Are you concerned with non english content hitting the front page? My thoughts on this would be to allow language specific tribes to post as they like, unless there are some character encoding issues which would prevent this. There are a lot of great features in Snapzu which encourage and foster user engagement, communities may flourish here compared to other sites because of this.

          Yes, but its not just the front page, Snapzu was designed to be heavily interconnected between the front page, the user feeds and multiple tribes, so not having a proper language based platform will create havoc. Until such a system that properly allows members to select their language preference as well as the language of the content they post we made the decision to keep content temporarily English only.

            Are there plans to enforce this decision? Either by closing tribes or banning users? This has been brought up in a few comments and if such a heavy handed response is necessary, you may want to make a more official post (like on the blog) to state the reasons behind it. That would help with showing the community the communication they can expect from the admins, compared to the issues which drove the recent Reddit exodus.

              I will be sure to make it more evident. But posting non-english content isn't exactly the type of thing we would ban a user for, unless they knowingly continued to abuse the system in some unfathomable way. Most of the time the community will down vote something a couple of times and its gone. Tribe chiefs can also remove non-english content, and if a tribe exists, we don't mind as in the future the support will be available and even encouraged. Our approach is that of educating rather than enforcing strictly something that isn't viewed as a negative, its just that we don't have the infrastructure to support it yet.

              @drunkenninja -

              Thanks for that response, I think that clears up the confusion on this stance for me.

      I haven't seen anything saying that you must have an english tribe.

        Thank you, i just wanted to ask before I'm doing something "wrong".

          Hmm, on the other hand there is this (sadly) in the voting FAQ under the "When should I down vote a snap?" heading (emphasis mine):

          Users should down vote snaps that don't belong in the specified tribe, aren't in English, include offensive or lack-luster content, or are obvious spam. Simply not finding it interesting should not warrant a down vote, as down votes are a great tool for crowd-sourced quality control of the content shown.

          I'm not sure how this relates to primarily non-English tribes though if the content is only posted there or to tribes that aren't in English. Thought I'd give you a heads up just in case. :)

            Yeah, I'm wondering about this too. For the tribe I started, a lot of content could be in other languages, and I also don't want to ban it, just maybe have people flag it as nonenglish if it's not obvious. There's so much stuff that would be understandable and useful even if not in English though

            I didn't even thought about cross-posting, just as an example /t/norge . There will be like 90% things be written in norwegian instead of english without closing out people who want to write in english since the don't speak norwegian so they can also write there.

            I can see a point in not wanting this by admins cause mostly the won't speak that language and so for they don't know what the content is about.

            Well I am thinking more along the lines of like learning a language. Support tribes for people that are learning a language.
