A Confirmation & Thank you!

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are checking this tribe daily and reading all feature suggestions / bug reports and feedback. Sometimes we may jump in and ask a question if we feel the need for some clarification, while other times (most times) if we need more we will PM you. We really like many of the feature suggestions here and will work on the ones that we can develop given they don't take too much server resources or are simply too complex for the platform backend or the UI to accommodate. We have already released 2 stealth updates that introduced a number of minor fixes / options based on suggestions left in this tribe. We thank everyone for taking their time to leave their feedback!

Oh, and one more thing! Please follow the tagging guidelines when posting your ideas and requests! Scrolling through different type of feedback is made much easier with the appropriate tags.

I too am enjoying it thoroughly! The admins are involved in the community, the community is helpful and kind, and so far, Reddit hasn't destroyed it! I am very excited to see where this place goes!

so far, Reddit hasn't destroyed it

I'm really liking their invite system. It makes this place much less susceptible to suddenly being overwhelmed by another community.

I agree. I think the trickle-in with the invite system does a great job at managing traffic increases as well. The proverbial "hug-of-death" can't really happen here due to the invite system. This gives the site administrators a chance to upgrade as traffic demands increase without losing too much functionality or having large amounts of down time. The added benefit is that people have to take their time in getting into Snapzu, which forces them to learn the rules and the community while simultaneously deterring trolls from even joining.

There's a subreddit that has out snapzu invites on request. It's how I got mine. /r/SnapzuInvites

Even so it's still better than everyone joing at once. I got mine from someone when they saw me mention all the codes were already taken on that thread.

...hold on, I want to put his name down because he (or she or they) gave me a chance at another site when everything else was being crushed to death.

              Edit:

              /u/PrismDragon is a cool dude.

Thanks for the mention RedditExodus. I'm Torvusil from Reddit BTW, and hope you enjoy the community on this site.

It was a little difficult at first but I think now that I'm over that I'm really starting to like this site (it's so well designed!).

I think I will be able to settle here for a long time, hopefully the same thing doesn't happen here that happened on Reddit (alot can change in a few years and holding power is the true test of man)

Yeah, aside from a few long loading times on my first day here, I've had zero problems. Hopefully they'll be able to slowly scale up to accommodate everyone.

I like this site a lot actually, but I'm still mainly on Reddit as of now. The community is not big enough for me to switch over full time as of yet (and not having an app is also one of the reasons)

      • Spooky
        +5

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to an app. I use(d) Sync for Reddit everyday on my phone and there's currently naff-all for Snapzu.

        • ecstasybread
          +5

The actual website seems to work okay on my phone. It shrinks down well unlike the desktop version of reddit. But then I'm not a big app user anyway, I use facebook in my browser too. I'm probably not typical.

What would be the advantage of having an app over a responsive website?

          • RedditExodus
            +4

I'm not sure how do describe it if you haven't used any of the apps for Reddit.

While Reddit basically required it for it to be convenient on your phone Snapzu doesn't really require it as its UI is very well designed for the phone.

I think the best way for me to describe what I prefer about it is:

            ------------------

            1) I don't have to navigate through a browser (some of the other reasons basically reflect this)

-This removes the "middle man" bringing me to the content with one less step

            ------------------

            2) Auto formatting to my phone

-I never have to zoom in or out and it probably looks a little better because of it (they designed the site very well for mobile users but this is just the nature of mobile browser's being in between me and the content)

            ------------------

            3) If I have multiple accounts I can switch easily

-Obviously this isn't really practical at this point (with Reddit refugees still coming in its kind of wasteful) but I know on Reddit it sure made life more convenient to have a secondary account for something you might not want associated with your main account (porn, which is the only reason I still go to Reddit. I have some niche porn subreddits that I haven't quite found a substitute for here)

            ------------------

            4) Convenient short cuts

            - This is a really simple and unnessasary one but I know I loved having a quick access to formatting in Reddit Sync. I could have just typed it, but it was slightly more convenient.

            ------------------

I think I might be able to list more but it mainly can be described by what I'm doing right now. I'm typing a fairly long list squiting at a screen because my browser isn't really the best interface for this. While it may be very versitile, allowing it to browse many other sites for many other reasons, it isn't specialized for Snapzu.

A Snapzu app would be wonderful, but I can be patient because it really is a beautiful interface (in case you didn't figure it out yet I love sites that take mobile users into consideration)

            ------------------

Let me know if my formatting is an eye sore. I'm still new and I'm trying to adjust (still haven't seen a lot of examples yet of the standard on how people phrase things here but that will happen with time)

The advantages of having an app is it often works better, actually suited for the format and is able to cache and have notifications. I am currently working on an app concept.

I am currently interested in being a gunie pig if it means the development of an app. I don't suggest using me if you don't like overly detailed reports.

It's really refreshing to leave a website where the admins are almost nonexistent for normal users and come to one where the admins actively engage with their userbase. This place is seriously awesome.

I second this thoroughly. So far, everyone has been really nice and the admins are super helpful and friendly. Makes such a nice change.

I really want to thank the admin team for how they handled the server issues throughout the intake of new users. Server had minimal downtime and I rarely felt the effects of people flooding the gates of Snapzu.

I hope the server migration will go through seamlessly (I'm going to assume it hasn't happened already) and we'll be able to welcome the 15 thousand refugees waiting at the gates of Twitter and whatnot.

Keep up the excellent work and thank you for everything.

To add on this, I would very much like if there was an update log somewhere, even for just minir bug fixes. Would be useful for those wondering if their feature/request was ever implemented.

Snapzu is already providing so many tools and changes to the usual reddit system that I've wanted for years, but haven't been available on any site with a viable community.

Here's to Snapzu's continued success and I hope this community just continues to get stronger!

You know what. Just keep this, keep this kind of thing forever and I'll be happy. Having the leaders of this site involved with the community is fantastic.

I noticed that my notifications now pop up when they happen, which I am really stoked about. I don't know if that's actually an update or just because I'm now on my work computer, but it's a feature I appreciate nonetheless!

    • bogdan
      +4

Notifications always popped up instantly for me, you mean this icon right?

      • Katherine
        +4

Nah, the icon always lit up, but I only got the real-time pop-up for level-ups and such, not comments or replies or anything. It's probably just the computer; as @nickcobb mentioned, I haven't cleared my cache or anything.

Regardless -- I love how many features there are to find!

        • bogdan
          +3

          I see now. I sometimes don't get the pop-up notification either :(

I've yet to figure out a rule for it. But I click my notification button every time it lights up so I was never really bothered by it.
