Some of my projects over the past year
Thought I could share some of my projects over the past year! Sorry for some instagram-quality photos, I give most of my finished items away, so some are the only photos I had. I collect patterns I find on the internet, but if you'd like me to share any feel free to let me know, and I'll see if I can dig it up for you. :)

Showing my creative side - some of my finished pieces.
I've been stitching for quite some time - my earliest memory going back to when I was about 6 or 7. Love the craft (it's one of many I participate in!), as it relaxes me and keeps my creative side busy. I create custom patterns, find ones I love on etsy and Spritestitch, or find kits in my local craft store. I make for myself, and often for friends.

My two favorites . . . so far!
I've loved crocheting since I was a kid. Very relaxing, and you can make so much! These are just two pics I had knocking around of my favorite pieces so far, but I'm always trying new patterns out and having fun with it.

First attempt at hand spinning yarn
Used a drop spindle. It might be lumpy and vary wildly in size from dk to super bulky, but I made it! Also, not sure how to rotate an image on Snapzu-this is my first image post...

Cabaret looks at wartime history through knitting
"Stick to your knittin’, kitten I’ve got a job to do." It’s little-known history, but thousands of songs like this encouraging women to knit were popular during the First and Second World Wars. Knitting even altered fashion: Dresses were designed with large pockets so women could always have their yarn and needles on them; and, for the first time ever, women carried tote bags instead of little clutch purses.

Judy Greer on Guerrilla Camping and Knitting in Traffic
When I moved to L.A., I’m embarrassed to say, I smoked cigarettes. I read in a fashion magazine that one way to quit smoking was to take up knitting, so I went to Suss Design on Beverly and signed up for classes. I’ve been knitting since I got here, and it worked. I quit.

Women proving the art of knitting can transcend generations
If your only recollection of knitting is as an old hobby of your grandmother's, you may not be aware that many consider knitting an art form and knitters are doing things with knitted wear that you never imagined.

So you've decided to spindle spin- Now what?
You need a spindle. Not just any spindle -- a spindle that you will love and that will inspire you to learn something new. There are a lot of different spindles to choose from. How do you pick? What do all of these words mean? Drop spindle? Hand spindle? Top whorl? Bottom whorl? What's a whorl?

We Like It Wild: The Hanging Gardens of Bernal Heights
Pick a little posy and hang it on a friend’s front door- they’ll get a pleasant surprise when they arrive home from work. Put a cluster on a hook in the kitchen and they’d be a pretty way to store and display fresh herbs from the farmer’s market. This pattern is for a medium/smallish container, it should fit a container about the size of a soup can or a pint size mason jar or a 4” flower pot. It’s a great beginner pattern for folks that want to branch in to three-dimensional crochet.
