Cabaret looks at wartime history through knitting
"Stick to your knittin’, kitten I’ve got a job to do." It’s little-known history, but thousands of songs like this encouraging women to knit were popular during the First and Second World Wars. Knitting even altered fashion: Dresses were designed with large pockets so women could always have their yarn and needles on them; and, for the first time ever, women carried tote bags instead of little clutch purses.
