My phobias are pretty common: acrophobia (fear of heights) and arachnophobia (fear of spiders). I'm not paralyzed by either, but I'm damned uncomfortable around both heights and spiders. I don't go see horror movies involving spider menaces.

Heights and cockroaches...When I see a roach, I want to kill it asap.

I personally have a mild case of claustrophobia and arachnophobia as well. Not scared of heights but damn terrified of spiders.

I don't know how weird this one would be, but I'm pretty terrified of open water. Swimming on the beach is fine, but if I can't see any land around I get awkwardly sweaty.

This is more of a Socially Awkward Penguin thing, but I often feel like store clerks are wondering if I'm going to shoplift and watch me closely.

The store clerks are not watching me, but that's how I feel sometimes.

So I start trying to "act normal" and ugh, it hurts to even think about. :D

Other people eating loudly - especially chewing gum or seeds. Close your mouths for fuck sake!

      That's not a phobia. it's Misophonia.

People who have misophonia are most commonly angered by specific sounds, such as slurping, throat-clearing, nail-clipping, chewing, drinking, tooth-brushing, breathing, sniffing, talking, sneezing, yawning, walking, gum-chewing or popping,

Things that are meant to be filled with air, even more so if they intend to be for water. I used to get panic attacks when seeing things like that, but these days I can get near them with only an elevated heart rate as a physiological effect. I get nightmares a lot about hot air balloons.

If I hear house of the rising sun I get really freaked out for some reason. I have no idea why but it's been this way since I was little. I really can't stand old school 1960's and 70's cartoons like beatles yellow submarine cartoon art style, makes me really uneasy.

I have a bit of a fear of heights, but it's odd. I can go up an enclosed building without issue (CN Tower for instance). However, I once tried going up a firetower that was on top of a mountain and couldn't do it. Something about the fact that it was open made me way too scared.

I'm terrified of playing Horseshoes because I'm afraid I'll trip, fall and impale myself on those little blunt rods sticking out of the ground.

Agora– in remission; was really bad at one point. Absolutely paralyzing.

I cannot tolerate the feel of my very fine hair on my face, particularly just one or very few of the buggers. I usually wear a hair but I'm rather hoping that I'll go bald. :)

Water on my face. I can't stand it. Be sweat running down my face, rain, tears, shower... doesn't matter. I just have to wipe it off so I stop feeling it. Have to use a rag to wash my face in the shower because of this.

I've tried more than once to force myself to get over it, but all I do is just tense up and stress out until I quit trying. All I can guess is it's some left over stuff from nearly drowning once as a kid. Took a deep breath before I was completely out of the water... never been a fan of water since lol

Face away from the shower head and lean your head back. Seems really weird to a lot of people, but how I've done it for years

I often wonder if people really have phobias. It seems like they would be pretty debilitating, and people always say that they have them. Do people express their fears as phobias?
