I know it's very difficult, but you should increase your value to employers. I hated when I felt trapped in a personality that wasn't me to keep my job or get hired.
Personally, I no longer use Facebook, I deleted my account almost a year ago..But, I know some family and friends who do.
My mother claims she uses it to feel connected since she doesn't get out much. She had a horrible habit of re-posting religious garbage all the time. Actually, many people I was friends with would post crap like that, religion, politics, what they had for breakfast. I think those types of things are what drove me away.
I feel like many people use it to stay connected or just lurking on peoples posts/walls (my wife) out of pure habit.
Sorry, this was a post about "Why I still use Facebook?" I just felt like venting since I hate Facebook so much. It was such a waste of time for me.
I just use the messenger app on my phone, to talk to some friends. That's about it, oh and sometimes I do go on the website to buy/sell books and stuff in univ group. I haven't posted anything in a very long time in my profile, neither do I like things there.
To help me talk to friends I made over the years scattered to all over the earth.
Haha if you looked at my wall its basically a bulletin board of when anyone will be in the area or times to talk on Skype.
It's a lot cheaper than long distance, more convenient than letters and a tad more interactive than plain old email. I use to use msn but meh they killed that off. Well I already mentioned Skype but we need organization!
To conveniently keep in touch with friends and family. "Everyone" uses it here. The best part of Facebook is how it largely killed e-mail, and with it, spam. I no longer get any spam in my private messages, per the design of the service. What I dislike about Facebook is how much it's centralizing the web. This can't be healthy in the long run.
I deleted several years ago, but I had to create a couple of new accounts over the years because everybody in my country use it. My dog has a microchip but it wasn't registered on my country database after I moved back here. Google searches for local shelters were empty, their websites empty of content. Luckily my brother found the dumbass of my dog on a Facebook shelter page.
Same if I want to search for local activities. Google, twitter and websites are useless, all the current events are on Facebook.
I despise it
I almost never check it, maybe once every 6 months or less...I keep it because somewhere in the back of my mind is "but...what if so-and-so who hasn't spoken to me in years all of a sudden wants to contact me?" Which is silly, I know but that's my brain's reasoning.
Same here, and then I get sucked down into a vortex of relationship drama, misinformation, and passive aggressive attention seeking status updates....... its a monster.
Not much. But I think your experience with Facebook is very dependent on the number and type of friends you have. The annoying ones I had I either unfriended (if they were acquaintances) or hid their posts (if they are family or would risk be offended my my unfriending them). I also block any game invite, from anyone. There's a way to make Facebook less annoying, but the appeal is still fading at an incredible pace. I mostly keep it to stay in contact with far away people and ones whose whereabouts I'm interested to know, without being close friends.
THE only reason I even have one at all is because when I game on my tablet it's so much easier and faster to log in using FB, other than that I have no use for FB at all.
All of my living grandparents are on it, so it's a quick easy way of showing them pictures of their great-grandchild. And there are a few good groups based in/around the suburb I live in. There's a buy/sell/swap group that I got some good stuff from, and an info sharing page which is good for finding a recommended plumber/dentist/mechanic/whatever.
Last time I used it was probably close to a year ago, and that was for a school project as the group members decided it was a good way to keep in touch. Worked well enough for that I suppose, though I would probably just have preferred email.

I don't, but I may actually have to eventually. I've heard stories of employers not hiring people because they don't have a Facebook profile.
I wouldn't want to work for such an employer, anyway. But that's up to you.
Yeah if an employer asked me for my Facebook during an interview, I think I would just thank them for their time and leave.
I wouldn't either, but you don't always have that choice financially so I rather not let something silly keep me from getting a job I may need.

I'd maybe suggest LinkedIn or Twitter rather than Facebook for things like this.
Family and friends.

Right there with you. Facebook is awful as are the original people behind it.
I keep contact with people I have things in common with in ways that I cannot outside of Facebook.

Wait, who still uses Facebook?
Keep in touch with friends/family and get updates from school network.

scattered friends... I barely check it (monthly?) and prefer chatting services, but most of my friends seem unable to use emails to communicate...
Family mostly. I get updates on their lives that way.
I don't. I deactivated my account a few years ago and have never missed it. It was only ever a source of irritation and frustration for me.
To keep in touch with friends and foes.

User c. 2004 when .edu was required. That's got to mean something, right? Oh, it doesn't...ok.
I never joined. Now I'm on a list
