Dark matter found in Milky Way’s core
Most of the material of the universe is dark matter—stuff we can’t see, though we can still feel its gravity. It was discovered in the 1970s when astronomer Vera Rubin showed that stars in the outer regions of spiral galaxies, far from the center, were moving faster than they should be. This suggested there was some sort of unseen mass in a “halo” around the galaxy. But physicists disagree over whether all this dark matter is at the margin or if there is some in a galaxy’s core.

New Supernova Study Reveals Mystery About The Death Of Massive, Super-bright Stars
There are massive and extremely bright stars in the universe that were long suspected by astronomers to die spectacular, explosive deaths, and a new study has put forth evidence for the first time that these cosmic behemoths indeed come to a violent end.

Scientists think they have dust specks from outside our solar system
Call them the seven wonders of interstellar space: Tiny specks of dust captured by a NASA spacecraft may be the first material from outside the solar system ever caught and brought to Earth. Researchers studying the contents of a capsule returned to Earth in 2006 at the conclusion of the Stardust spacecraft's primary mission believe that they have found seven remarkable specks on its collection panels.

Radio Stars Not Killed Just Changed Into Black Holes
The question as to who killed the radio star has finally been answered — it wasn’t killed, it committed suicide by changing itself into a black hole, just like many other radio stars. According to researchers in a December 20 press release, a certain kind of radio star turns off its radio transmission prior to going ka-bloo-ie, falling in upon itself, and changing into a black hole, while other radio stars turn into neutron stars.

Strange Super-Earth Planet Has 'Plasma' Water Atmosphere
A nearby alien planet six times the size of Earth is covered with a water-rich atmosphere that includes a strange "plasma form" of water, scientists say. Astronomers have determined that the atmosphere of super-Earth Gliese 1214 b is likely water-rich. However, this exoplanet is no Earth twin. The high temperature and density of the planet give it an atmosphere that differs dramatically from Earth.
