The title of the article is not entirely correct, since the NRA gave the in-school shooting club [sic] 10k for equipment and not just for training Cruz. Still sad that gunclubs promote the use of weapons at schools and subsidize it.
It was given to a JROTC program, not exactly the school, most JROTC programs are approved by the US Government usually Air Force but other branches as well, I did a year of Army, and they are overseen by retired commissioned officers, in our case a Colonel and two Lt. Majors. JROTC marksmen programs are bb guns with scopes, not exactly what this person used or fired, think sniper training.
You say that like it's a bad thing. Sound practice around safety, discipline and training in the use of firearms seems not all that far a cry from swim, driving or CPR instruction. Would you say even knowing how to use weapons responsibly well is inherently evil?
It teaches gun safety and proper firing technique. Transferring that to efficiently shooting people rather than paper targets is more of a "Bring your own mental illness" to the situation.
