‘Donald Trump destroyed my life,’ says barred Iraqi who worked for U.S.
The photos of the Sharef family spoke volumes about their plight. In the first two, the Iraqis are happily seated on their plane, smiling. They were flying from their home in Irbil to New York. In the next few, they are seated in Cairo’s airport, their faces glum and haggard. By then, they had been taken off their plane — and informed they could no longer travel to the United States.

The Girl Who Would Live Forever
Matheryn Naovaratpong was two years and two months old when she didn't wake up on the morning of April 14th, 2014. She was rushed to a hospital in Bangkok, where doctors discovered an 11 centimeter-long tumor in the left half of her brain. Matheryn—her family called her Einz for short—had ependymoblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer that afflicts the very young. The prognosis is exceedingly grim; at its highest, the five-year survival rate is 30 percent. Einz had fallen into a coma.

Theresa May lied and lied again to become PM
Theresa May appeals to a stereotype that has a deep grip on the English psyche. Sober and commonsensical, she behaves with the moral seriousness we expect from a vicar’s daughter. She may be a little clunky, but what a relief it is to have a straightforward leader from the heart of the country after the flash, poll-driven phonies of the past.

Commented in Donald Trump Mocks Women Who Accused Him Of Sexual Assault
I have recently watched the film Spotlight. The story talks about how the Boston Globe uncovers the church´s scheme to silence thousands of cases of child abuse perpetrated by catholic priests. I wonder how many people questioned at the time (around 2001) when the news got out how it looked suspicious how many victims appeared "out of nowhere". I wonder how many people claimed that the church would never be involved with sexual abuse on children and it was all a conspiracy to sell more papers. I wonder how many of those children were ridiculed and ostracized when they tried to tell the truth. I wonder how many ended their lives and how many were strong enough to keep their sanity.
I like to think of myself as someone fairly courageous, but I have no idea what I would do if I was in their shoes. Spotlight. What a great movie.

Barack Obama on 5 Days That Shaped His Presidency
On August 25, after a short trip to Baton Rouge to assess flooding in Louisiana and before what will likely be his last visit to China on Air Force One, Barack Obama sat down at the White House to reflect on the past eight years. He led America through a period of dramatic, convulsive change — an era that New York Magazine explores this week in its cover story. Before his conversation with Jonathan Chait, he chose five moments that, he believes, will have outsized historical impact. Here is their conversation in full.
