Minn. Dentist 'Deeply Regrets' Killing Well-Known Lion in Zimbabwe
An American tourist who killed a well-known lion in Zimbabwe said he didn’t know the lion was a local favorite and that he believed everything about the hunting trip was legal and properly conducted. The hunter was identified by the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, the Safari Operators Association of Zimbabwe and police as 55-year-old Walter Palmer of Eden Prairie, who has a dental practice in Bloomington.

Sound more like something a lawyer prepped him for and less like an actual apology. The article makes this guy come off as a real scum bag.
Translation: "I'm a psychopath that loves to kill for sport, but I'm really sorry I got caught doing something illegal"
This! Fuck him, seriously. The only thing he does not like is bad press.
I came to say much the same thing. The photos of him standing triumphant over the dead lion show pleasure at the kill... the only thing he has any remorse over is the fact that most of the rest of the world finds it deplorable and he has to face repercussions now.
Yeah, his illegal killing of a black bear in 2006 and his attempted cover-up of said killing makes his apology sound less than sincere.
Even just the wording of the "apology" - he prioritized his defense as it being an "activity he loves and practices responsibly" before mentioning that he murdered a beloved animal. It's like when people say "sorry, no offense, but..." as if whatever they're about to say is okay. It just makes you want to punch them in the face, or maybe it's just me. Either way, I don't see how luring a protected animal out of a reserve with bait strapped to a truck in order to shoot it could be an activity that anyone should love.

I agree. I'm all for hunting...I get it's fun or whatever but at least eat the meat, don't let its death go to waste. Don't just do it for sport. And does anyone else think it's extremely disgusting to travel to a whole other continent to kill its wildlife. I think it shows how entitled this guy feels.
I have no problem with hunting. I myself don't hunt and I don't like the idea of it personally, but I'm aware that it's just my personal preference. If it's for meat or to feel a part of nature or even for legal sport to curb overpopulation I don't have a problem with it. What this guy did is something else. Paying $50 grand for what, a trophy? To feel like a big man? It certainly wasn't for meat. Spending the money to fly to another continent to bait and kill a predator doesn't sound natural. And given that they're a threatened species overpopulation certainly isn't an issue. This guy seems like a real piece of shit.
I completely agree. I really do hope there's some kind of serious repercussions for this guy...he needs to stop killing animals for no good reason. However, I'm sure with the way the justice system works he'll be hunting pandas next month :(
He shoots it with his pointy stick and then it suffers for 40 hours until someone finally finishes it off with a rifle. And bow hunting is superior to gun hunting how?
