I think people who use guns, regularly, are among the most respectful of them. I grew up around guns, used guns a great deal... and can tell you that I won't pick up or carry a gun unless I'm entirely confident in my presence of mind.
What worries me more, is the casual / untrained gun user, who somehow ends up holding a handgun. I think this is the fear-driven person you talk about... but I think it's the governments place to ensure that between that fear-driven motive for obtaining a gun, and the actual possession of it... there exists the type of training that instills respect for weapons (as discussed in the article).

$70 million on station changes is small change compared to $20 billion on trains. It's embarrassing that they didn't see it coming, but it's hardly crippling.

I wish they could have more thoroughly profiled the people who participated. I imagine the people most willing to engage a researcher about participating, would be skewed towards extroverts.

Chronologically she took her life after facing harassment... but the article very specifically say that it's not reason she did (or at least... says it's unknown which of a LONG list of factors were major contributors).

I group people into two categories. -Doesn't know what Google Glass is; doesn't realize you have a camera on your face. -Knows what Google Glass is, are envious, and would join the club if they had $1500 of disposable income.

Hopefully they don't go the same route as States that want to tax hybrid/electric cars at a high rate, to make up for lost gas-tax revenue.
