Pizza Huts Across U.S. to Have Vegan Cheese by End of Summer
“We have been testing the marketing when it comes to vegan cheese for quite some time, and we’re just about ready to make the leap!” Pizza Hut told us in a recent e-mail exchange. “We plan to have vegan cheese available at all of our U.S. locations by the end of summer, most likely in August.” They note that “we’ll have an official announcement with a precise date in the very near future!”

If you’re a vegetarian in the Dallas, TX, area, you’ll want to head to a Taco Bell near you ASAP. The chain is testing a menu that features some Taco Bell favorites catered to a meat-free diet, beginning Thursday, April 4. The menu will offer two new items: a Vegetarian Crunchwrap Supreme and a Vegetarian Quesarito, both of which are American Vegetarian Association-certified, according to Taco Bell. The 7-Layer Burrito is also featured on the menu.

6.5 Million Canadians Are Ditching Meat
A total of approximately 6.5 million Canadians (20 percent of the population) are actively reducing, or completely eliminating, their consumption of meat, according to a study conducted by Dalhousie University and the University of Guelph. In 2017, the U.K. supermarket Sainsbury’s tried an experiment. The retailer had recently rolled out a vegetarian version of the classic English meal, sausage and mash, labeled “meat-free sausages and mash,” but it wasn’t exactly flying off the shelves. Suspecting the uninspired name might have to do with the lackluster sales, Sainsbury’s tried out a few different labels: “field-grown sausages and mash,” Cumberland-spiced veggie sausages and mash,” and “better sausages and mash.” Every alternative name sold better, but “Cumberland-spiced” brought sales up 76% in two months.
