Will be spending the summer at my uncles farm, need a few good books to read, recommendations?

Come June 25th I'm heading over to my uncles farm to help him out and get away from the city for a bit. Looking to bring my kindle with a few choice books to read while I'm there. I will still have limited internet access (phone's data plan). I have a couple on there already, but can anyone make some recommendations?

I'm into adventure, crime/murder mysteries as well as sci-fi but not the hardcore steam-punk stuff.

BTW, I checked out /t/books tribe and have a couple notes from there also. Thanks all.

Here are some books I've enjoyed this year and last:

Fools guild mysteries. I started with The Widow Of Jerusalem by Alan Gordon. Amusing, entertaining medieval mysteries.

SF. Louis MsMaster Bujold Miles Vorkosigan books. A most unlikely protagonist who uses brains not brawn. It's a big series and worth your while.

SF. The Hunger Games. Suzanne Collins. You should have heard of this..I found them real page turners.

SF. Mira Grant: Parasite. A futuristic trilogy where parasites are inserted into humans to prevent diseases. Things are fine and dandy till the parasites decide to stop playing second fiddle. Two books in the series so far. Excellent!

I like SF with just aliens, here are some I enjoyed:

    Dragon's Egg Robert Forward. An oldie but a goodie..No dragons,but it's interesting.

Walls of Ancient Stone ; K.L. Schaefer Compelling protagonist who hopes to make big changes in his opressive society. I could not put it down.

The Caring Shell; KL Schaefer Short but thought provoking novelette about a group of Sharns and how one deals with being held against e's will in a different clan than e's own.

Once Upon A Cloud; K.L. Schaefer Also a short story of a cloud creature and how he lives his life.

Here is a list of my sci-fi must haves:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adam
    Dune by Frank Herbert
    I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
    Contact by Carl Sagan
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

Those are some off the top of my head. Not really into the classic adventure books or crime novels. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the recommendations spacepopper. I've been hearing a lot about "Dune" lately with the worsening drought in California and all.

I wish sci-fi and fantasy weren't lumped together like they are. It takes completely different reading styles to enjoy them. I've actually tried several times to read some of the top books in the fantasy category. I barely managed to trudge through The Hobbit. I couldn't even get halfway through Dragonriders of Pern before I just couldn't take it anymore and quit. I started off enjoying the first two thirds of the first harry potter book, but then started to lose interest. I actually thought discworld was too silly to the point of being dumb. I read all sorts of rave reviews about book of the new sun so I got excited and bought The Shadow and The Claw. It never got my interest, and about 1/3 of the way through, I wanted to quit. I kept telling myself that maybe it will get better, so I fought through and was sorely disappointed.

I know that there are some genre bending books out there that have a mix of sci-fi and fantasy. I just read one recently and it was tolerable

You make a good point. I too am definitely more into the sci-fi stuff so I would be great if the two genres weren't so clumped together. I guess for the moment we just need to be more selective.

For adventure I would recommend Shantaram and Shôgun. Two awesome books!

I can only help you with sci-fi.

Are you into reading the classics or are you ok with lower quality kindle publishing? There are some fun books that I've read that are less than $5 on kindle.

Also, what type of sci-fi do you enjoy?

Do you like spaceships, apocalypse, present day, far future, etc?

EDIT: I'll go ahead and make one recommendation before hearing your answers.

    Wool by Hugh Howey.

I don't mind the classics but would prefer to go with something released in the last 15-20 years or so. Cheaper books are great too as long as its a good read, no really, I don't want to be looking up words every 5 minutes! I like apocalyptic scenarios, dystopian futures, anything with AI/robots (good or bad), far future stuff lined with some optimism I will also enjoy.

Venus Equilateral is a series of stories written 70 years ago. It's a classic, but I'm not sure how many people have heard of it.
