I just came here from reddit, and would like to have the answers to a few questions...

Hi, I'm IridescentOak! I've been looking around for a bit, and have been deciding whether or not it'd be worth my time to stay here. So, in order to decide, I have a few questions that I'd like to ask the community:

  1. About how big would you estimate the userbase to be?

  2. What are some of your favorite "tribes"? Why?

  3. Would you say that Snapzu is more content, discussion, or community based?

  4. What do you see in the future of this site?

  5. What is your favorite aspect of Spapzu?

  6. Your least favorite?

  7. What are the main views of the hivemind, if any?

  8. How is the site changing?

  9. Are there any major users?

  10. Do you enjoy using Snapzu?

  11. Is there anything I need to be made aware of?

  12. Are there any unwritten rules around here?

  13. Sum up the site in one sentence.

  14. How active are the main tribes, in general?

  15. What's the staff like here? (Asking because of the recent reddit drama that led me here in the first place.)

  16. What does a redditor need to know about Snapzu? I'd appreciate as detailed of an explanation as you can provide. An ELI5, if you will.

  17. reddit has redditors. Imgur has Imgurians. What do we call ourselves here? Snappy Suzies?

Thanks for taking the time to help out a new Snapzu user. I appreciate it! : )

First, I'd like to ask how you found us. Obviously reddit, but what reddit thread?

1)I have no clue really. Active? I guess I'd say theres around a group of 10 really active people generating a lot of content, and it looks like about 100 people who are moderately active. Small but growing.

    2) Virtual Reality because I made it.

    3) I'd say snapzu is content based. More than reddit imo, Reddit is more discussion, which this website does have a decent amount of for its small size. However, here, I feel like the content is more important than the discussion. You can kind of see this by our "front page' where it is a grid that highlights the content instead of the post.

    4) The future? Thats a very hard question to answer in a start-up community. Of course we all have hopes of growing. Personally, I'm not sure if snapzu will ever overtake reddit, but I do see it possibly becoming a heavy-hitter in the industry in the same way vimeo is to youtube.

    5) Definitely the networking aspect of it. With the following/followers system, as well as being able to "x-post" to multiple tribes, everything has a much more interesting way to network throughout the site. It feels like less of anonymous people posting on random threads and more of a community posting in a community.

    6) While I love the level system and the gained abilities, I find some of the things they hold back kind of stupid such as amount of people you can follow. I seriously don't see the point in holding back the number.

    7) I don't think we've quite developed a hivemind yet. It will eventually form just like it does on all sites. However, opinions here are pretty free right now.

    8) I personally haven't been around long enough to answer this. More people I guess?

9)Off the top of my head I can think of drunkenninja, gladsdotter, and splitfish. All above level 40. Basically, if they have a high level, the probably are pretty well known.

    10) I love it. More than reddit. The only downside right now is the sma...

Thank you for answering! Replying to a few things you said:

      - Finding a thread in reddit is like finding a needle in a haystack. All I can say, is that it was in one of the drama threads. However, Snapzu has been mentioned in /r/redditalternatives. Most people on reddit who have heard of Snapzu are pretty much in consensus that this is where they'll end up after reddit falls.

      - I'm in complete agreement with you on numbers 5 and 6(sooo much.)

      - As for number 9-- you belong on that list, too!

I'm really liking Snapzu so far, so I think I'm going to stick around. : )

Ya, drama threads tend to be littered with people throwing around alternatives.

I'd like to think I'm one of those top posters but I'm not haha. Maybe one day :p

And glad you're sticking around. Enjoy your stay!

Hey IridescentOak, welcome to the site! I figure I will join in and try to answer your list of q's...

    1. Judging by the /u/teamsnapzu account, there are over 7k profiles, not sure exactly how many active users there are, although I lean towards about 100+, and another 300-400 being possible lurkers. Tiny compared to reddits army of millions.

    2. I personally frequent /t/science, /t/technology, /t/technews, /t/interesting, /t/books... actually, there is a good way to quickly tell what tribes people are most active in. If you visit my profile /u/drunkenninja, check out the left area... Those tribes have little battery pack style bars on them... referred to as "tribe mastery". Those tribes are sorted by most activity, I guess its self explanatory beyond this point.

    3. I think snapzu is generally content based as it focuses on visually pleasing ways to present to you the content we all find and post. But as the community of us posters grows, I hope we can have busier comment areas for each snap. As for now, I see growth and that is always a good thing!

    4. Its hard to say, but for end game I should hope its a fun and interactive community that loves to share links and create discussions around them.

    5. I would say its the visual presentation and creative approach to content, and caring about how our shares are presented to others and how others can interact and even contribute to those shares.

    6. Feature clutter, there seems to be a bit too much stuff all at once, it can be a bit off putting and intimidating at first.

    7. I don't believe there is yet a hive mind, its the wild west in this biatch.

    8. Over the last couple of years (has it been that long!?), there have been countless improvements to functionality, design, flow and ease of use. I hope the trend continues. Here is a good place to keep informed on the updates /t/blog.

    9. Best way to see some of the most active and contributing members is to check out /u/teamsnapzu, and click on the fo...

Thank you for answering! In resonse to a couple of things you said:

      - I completely agree with you on numbers 5, 6, and 17.

      - On number 15-- I get that impression, too. A while ago, they did a mini-AMA on one of the smaller subreddits. They seemed pretty good-natured, and even responded quite positively to a troll. (I know it's good to be polite when you're representing something, but even so, it seemed very genuine.)

I'm definitely going to stick around, Snapzu seems like a great place. Can't wait to see where it goes! : )

I'm from Reddit, but I like this site much better. I do not like the way people often treat each other on Reddit..It's just too big and too much childish nonsense is allowed for my taste. People are much better behaved here and seem to hold others to a higher standard of conduct, which I think is important.

I completely agree! It's nice when you don't have to worry about trolls all the time. It feels more like a family. : )

It does indeed. Now,some of the subs are nice on Reddit and that's all I subscribe to,so I don't have to see Reddit's ugly underbelly so much. I rarely contribute to Reddit and mostly lurk. I lurk a lot here as well, but I do submit content several times a week.

I'm often hesitant to answer pm's on Reddit,as I'm never sure if it will be a nice person, or someone who will verbally slice me to ribbons. I don't worry about that here. I don't see trolls here either, and I don't see immature karma junkies with obscenities as user names.

Reddit does not even come close to this site.It amazes me something so sleazy as Reddit could be so popular. There is a lot of hate and anger there towards certain groups of people and I don't see that here either, which is a huge bonus in my way of thinking. On an ending note, I do not want this place to get as big and impersonal as Reddit, but time will tell on that one.

At first, the whole underbelly part was a huge selling point for reddit. And now that it grew to this corporate size, it's sensoring content, removing core features, anything that will position it better from a marketing perspective. They are selling out their users, and its bullshit.

i came from reddit and i still use reddit but contribute more here. on reddit i look at my feed and visit some individual subs but here i also post articles/videos/comments/etc. i like, as photos said, the smaller community here. here are answers to some of your questions.

    1. i have no idea. look through the tribes and you might get a good idea based on the ones with the most members?

    2. i don't look at the tribes individually but i like tech-based stuff and there's lots of tribes for that.

    5. i like how easy to use it is, the UI, and the points/levels system. (it's like motivation)

    6. i have yet to discover a tribe like /r/worldpowers (which i really like on reddit)

    10. OF COURSE! why else would i be here?? ;-)

    11. hmmm. . . not that i know of.

    12. i'm pretty new so i've been wondering the same thing

    13. it is awesome.

    welcome to Snapzu! :-)
