Well, we say we can do everything better than everyone else, but we can't get medical care to people who need it unless they're wealthy. We can't educate our children very well and we certainly can't look out for our least fortunate citizens. We have the highest costs of any industrial nation with the lowest outcomes for all but the top 10 or 20%. So we tell ourselves that we're exceptionally good when in fact we're exceptionally bad at taking care of our own people.
If I were an evil mastermind I would be highly impressed at how America actively and joyfully fights against their own well being and rights. Well done!
Actually no, I am rather impressed with that, sad and flummoxed but very impressed.
And patisserie, I found a proper fine patisserie in edinburgh last week and had my first macaroons and good heavens wow. I was already a massive fan of various pastries and tarts and impossibly silky light desserts but good grief there's always yet more to fall in love with.
Netherlands - apparently we run the densest train network in the world. Often kinda late, often things fall out - but on quite a few stretches of track you'll have a train passing by every 5/6 minutes. Also we do bureaucracy incredibly well.... which is positive and negative...

I thought it was exceptionalism, or is that just a marketing ploy? :)

I never thought I'd feel sorry for an American until I started reading about some of them on the internet. Quite an eye opener.

The rest of the world has managed to exceed the US in nearly every way, but they still use our routers and switches.
