[Discussion] Who is your most loved character from anime, and why?
Going for a bit of an inverse from yesterdays thread. What character has been your most loved from anime? Could be a MC, a side character, a dude that was only in for like 5 seconds of that OVA you love, doesn't matter as long as you like them! ^_^
My all time favorite anime character is probably Yui from K-On. That show just made me so happy every time I watched it. Nothing ever really happens within the show itself but hey the characters are so lovable you never really care. Cute girls doing cute things.
Plus the Yui Ui combo is so adorable and hilarious. Remember that flashback where they're setting up the christmas tree and Ui grabs onto Yui's legs so she won't fall off of her little stool thing? So adorable.

I thought about it pretty honestly - and my favorite character is easily Mystogan from Fairy Tale. This seems odd coming from me since it's a Shonen and the plot is literally everywhere and neverending, but his character was never fully developed, and was extremely mysterious, so they didn't have time to fuck it up. http://fairytail.wikia.com/wiki/Mystogan
My second favorite character is probably Aramaki from Ghost in the Shell: SAC, as he has incredible insight to the politcal world, and is able to make accurate decisions quickly to ensure his team can do what they need to do - the ultimate manager essentially. http://ghostintheshell.wikia.com/wiki/Daisuke_Aramaki
I haven't seen either of those shows, I should probably check it out. The super long shonens always seen daunting though, stuff like Naruto and One Piece and Bleach where it just seems never ending.
Fairy Tale didn't get too daunting to me until after the first Arc in Series 2 - At which point I got tired of same beaten theme. But I still watch it since I'm in for the long haul, Just like that time I grinded through inuyasha in less than a week only to find the ending was bullshit (which they fixed a few years after I watched it, thought I still haven't seen the ending)
"grinded through inuyasha in less than a week" That seems a little slow for you JT. Step it up.
167 episodes = 56 hours = ~12ish hours a day watching it @_@ IDK dood I didn't do much back then but even now that would be crazy to try to do in less than a week
I was unaware InuYasha had an ending.
Lelouch. He displays the exact traits a character needs for the watcher to be conflicted about him. He shows empathy, and most of his screw ups were unforeseeable or genuine mistakes, but he does some pretty awful things before using "holier then thou" ideology to allow it to happen. He's deceitful yet clever, he clearly wants to better the world, and he understands the stakes. At the same time he betrays, kills or manipulates anyone and everyone in his way.
Lelouch is definitely a great character. Too often you see characters with only one generic motive. Lelouch has the main motive of wanting his sister to live in a better world, but a lot of things he does are also driven by his hate for his father and his hate for injustice.
He might not be the most likeable character, but I'd say Suzaku is necessary for Lelouch to be a great character. They come from similar situations and want to achieve the same goals but their methods are very different.
It's hard to pick a "most loved", but one that sticks out in my mind is Raoh from Legends of the Dark King. His one-track mind in the source of all kinds of badassery. Thoroughly enjoyable. Izaya Orihara from Durarara!! also sticks out in my mind. He's extremely clever and twisted, so it's fun to watch his plots unfold.
Shinji from Evangelion.
Just kidding. I hate him, as does everyone.
Still not sure after thinking it over for a while... though I'd have to choose Squealer from Shin Sekai Yori. He's patient, clever, and employs pretty brutal tactics in his Machiavellian pursuit of a world where his people could stand on equal terms with the "true" humans. He's unyielding in his ideals and, despite the brutal massacre of 'innocents', his apparently evil choices appear painfully rational when taking into account the standing of the queerats and the seemingly impossible-to-win battle to be fought. He reminds me of Lelouch in [this scene from Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch R2], the primary difference being that he failed.
