top comment of the imgur section:

Psh, like a nintendophone would use Android and not some crazy proprietary OS that requires you to call people via friend code.

I would be so down for this phone! It would be the worlds most perfect device!

Agreed. Big screen, durable housing, classic look, hotswappable camera/memory slot and physical buttons in a simple attachment instead of the nVidia Shield thing.

Either way, I hope the guy that made this concept gets hired somewhere if he already isn't. It's a solid design and a great presentation

Wouldn't you want the extra memory if you were taking a lot of photos? Seems to be a bit of a pitfall.

Somewhat. It would come down to how much internal memory it had. With this concept, ideally the external memory would only be for games and game data...while internal memory would be the more "phone" aspects. That's...kinda what I do my phone right now, considering I have an N64 emulator on the SD Card :P

EDIT: Actually, looking back at it again, I just noticed the camera insert says "3D Camera" and "Stereo Camera". It's an extra camera, while the default is in the corner. Unless the default one was massively lower MP, you could have the memory and a camera at the same time :)

Took a look at it again, and yeah you are right. Missed that default camera in my view. But still, bigger or better camera would want more memory shrugs

There ought to be a built in camera (since a smartphone would be severely crippled without it, making it the only module you'd use) but a module could be something like an upgrade camera with optical zoom lens with a larger sensor.

Also, a battery module of that size wouldn't add much extra runtime. Maybe like 400mAh (about 15% extra) estimating from the approximate size.

Memory module would be nice but probably overpriced as a proprietary form. MicroSD slots would do fine.

Pretty interesting concept. Does anyone know if Nintendo has any plans on actually creating smartphones?

My heart melted at "Power saving '8-Bit' mode"

It's certainly a neat idea with a fun aesthetic. That green-grey powersaving mode is cute. I just think it's painted a bit too heavily by nostalgia.

Also I think the desire to have Nintendo games on a mobile(cell/expressly touch) platform is poorly placed. Opening them up to multiple platforms weakens the experience. Historically, I've grown to trust Nintendo with their own hardware and central IPs and dread what could happen on Android/iOS devices.

Really cool. Looks more like something a fan of 80s Nintendo hardware would make rather something Nintendo would do today, but a pop out controller would be awesome on any smartphone!

I would camp out in line for days to get my hands on this phone.
