But, I can't help but wonder what they were reporting on whenever it happened. New park opening? Free kittens at the local animal control? Prison riot? Police standoff? Weather? The article says nothing about what they were doing at the time.

He even had the gall to record it and post it online, from The Guardian:

The videos posted in the name of Bryce Williams, the name Vester Lee Flanagan reported under for WDBJ7, show an approach to Parker, Gardner and Ward on the deck where they were filming an interview. The three continue reporting live and do not acknowledge the approaching person. The person filming then angles alongside the cameraman and aims a handgun directly at Parker, who does not appear to notice.

A second video shows the gunman shooting at Parker as she runs away from the shots.

    This is so upsetting.

This is one of those happenings that I really struggle to find words for. My heart goes out to the loved ones of these 2 innocent people.

To be fair... if you're willing to shoot and kill former coworkers on live TV, then kill yourself (sloppy, died in hospital after the attempt)... you're showing some pretty serious mental issues. All the boldness shows is he somehow thought he was completely justified... which makes me wonder why he killed himself. Guilt as reality set it? Knowing that the rest of his life is fucked so might as well end it? Odd to be irrationally convinced you're doing the right thing then be suicidal.

Please note that I do not endorse the following line of thought, I'm just speculating as to a possible mindset.

If you think your life has been ruined by somebody and you were going to commit suicide anyway since you have nothing left to live for, why not take them with you?

Possible, I suppose. If he hadn't recorded/bragged about it on Twitter, I'd say you're right, but who knows. Irrational people are irrational.

I don't mean to sound so jaded, but, well, I kinda am. As an American, this shit is absurdly common, and there's never any meaningful attempt to address it. At best we pass some gun control law that actually does very little, while you can still get your lettuce, condoms, and firearms all from your friendly neighborhood Walmart.

From the CNN related link above:

Law enforcement confronted Vester Flanagan on Interstate 66 and Flanagan shot himself, officials tell CNN. It is not clear whether he was killed or injured.

ABC News reported that it has received a fax containing a 23-page manifesto from someone named Bryce Williams, the news outlet tweeted. The document has been handed over to investigators, ABC said.

Yeah, it's a shame. Some people just snap when they lose their job. Terribly tragic for all concerned.
