I think once Hollywood realizes that their risk is greater to keep pumping out crappy sequels & prequels as opposed to supporting and creating unique and original content, then they will change their ways. Until then, we are stuck with the crap they pump out.
People keep paying to see the same crap over and over again. Why should they make any effort to be creative? The fraction of people who appreciate it is too small for it to be worth the cost.
