My mom can't understand why my vegetarian daughters won't eat fish, because the Church says that fish is not meat.

Commented in Vatican reveals it owns more than 5,000 properties
Not that big of a deal, considering at one time The Vatican owned large chunks of the continent, it's still headquartered in Italy, most cardinals and such end up in Italy at some point. With a billion alleged members of the Church that breaks down to 1 property for every 200,000 members, it says that 14% of the property is rented at market rate and the rest at cut rate to Church employees, I'd view it very much in line with what other Churches like the United Methodist Church do, providing housing(Parsonage) for ministers. I mean the Church investment/real estate scandal is a big deal, but at the same time owning property across the planet when they have allegedly billions of people in their care, not out of the realm of probability, how many properties do other Governments own.... probably similar.

Commented in The best way to reduce your carbon footprint is one the government isn’t telling you about
Less children means less (future) income -and other- taxes, so that's probably a reason you won't see that in schoolbooks or in the media. It also goes against the church's doctrine and its' much needed flock. Also, less children means less consumers and that means less profit.
I have no kids, never had a car, have travelled just about six times by airplane, which justifies me being a flexitarian (I eat about three days a week vegetarian meals). Gotta love them lambchops. :-) .
Edit: G.G. Allin knows what's up.

Commented in Mom speaks out after school finds her OnlyFans account and expels her sons: 'It's body shaming and bullying'
On one hand it is a private school where you sign a code of conduct contract with them to enroll your children, especially a Catholic school where you agree to uphold and represent the morals of the Church, yeah yeah pedophilia aside, that's the agreement you sign.
On the other hand its screwed up to punish the children because of their parents, it's even more wrong to not then expel the children of the man who found her page, because he too was violating the morals clause, as well the children of the women who sent the pictures to the principal and Bishop.

Commented in More And More Americans Aren’t Religious. Why Are Democrats Ignoring These Voters?
yeah, duh
cuz non religious people a) don’t breed in great numbers and b) don’t vote
it’s the tragedy of the secular
besides “religiously unaffiliated” and “other” are not necessarily non-religious
it can be anything from mysticism through Buddhism (aka Hindu heresy) all the way to ‘praying at home’
just because they are not going to a church doesn’t mean they are secular
and besides it is religious zealots politicians seek out and try to appeal to because they are above all zealous
seculars tend to be more apathetic when it comes to legislative agenda to promote their beliefs because it is precisely the fact that their beliefs are unimportant to them which makes them nonreligious

Commented in What Happens to Your Brain When You Stop Believing in God
I never felt religion was important and stopped going to church at 13.
When I began to see my colorful Bible as boring and childish, those same reward circuits likely became less active. Religious experiences produced less pleasure. This happens involuntarily in people with Parkinson's disease, which compromises the brain's reward centers. In turn, Anderson tells me, people who develop Parkinson's are much more likely to lose their faith.
One of my cousins has this and is super religious,I wonder if she will become an atheist?

Commented in Why Evangelical Christianity Dying
Yeah, all that is true..They left out all the home schooling they do and the private schools they also run which does stem the tide. Of my fundy kin who have all reproduced, only two adult children don't attend church and don't plan to reproduce. They also see chiropractors, use essential oils and such.

Commented in American churches must reject literalism and admit we got it wrong on gay people
A sad thing is happening in America. The church is killing itself.
I don't see that as sad. They have done so many horrific things over the centuries I'm quite pleased to see them get their comeuppance.
The revelation is that LGBTQ people are just like the rest of us
Well DUH!

Commented in U.S. Church Membership Down Sharply in Past Two Decades
Membership Decline Steeper Among Catholics Gallup has previously reported that church attendance has dropped more among Catholics than among Protestants. Consistent with this, the decline in church membership has been greater among Catholics.
I expected this considering ho badly they have behaved even after their dirty laundry has been displayed for the world to see.

Commented in What Happens to Your Brain When You Stop Believing in God
Let's be serious. The Bible was written at a time when most people believed the world to be flat. Today, it's an interesting collection of reported events of the day, many grossly exaggerated, though useful reference for guidance for some. Plausibility of the Old Testament is dashed by the time one's finished high school and subsequent events, particularly those of the last 100 years which make the goings on of the time look like a storm in a tea cup, are enough to fill a further 3 testaments. I find the "Church's" negligence in updating the Bible extraordinary. If the Church wants be be taken seriously in today's society, all it has to do is continue writing the Bible, as the basic material on which it's based has never stopped and it's core issues are far more prolific and globally pertinent.

Commented in The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they called 'gitche gumee' The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty That good ship and crew was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most With a crew and good captain well seasoned Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ship's bell rang Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'? The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the captain did too, T'was the witch of November come stealin' The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait When the gales of November came slashin' When afternoon came it was freezin' rain In the face of a hurricane west wind When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck sayin' Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya At seven pm a main hatchway caved in, he said Fellas, it's been good t'know ya The captain wired in he had water comin' in And the good ship and crew was in peril And later that night when his lights went outta sight Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Does any one know where the love of God goes When the waves turn the minutes to hours? The searches all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her They might have split up or they might have capsized They may have broke deep and took water And all that remains is the faces and the names Of the wives and the sons and the daughters Lake Huron rolls, superior sings In the rooms of her ice-water mansion Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams The islands and bays are for sportsmen And farther below Lake Ontario Takes in what Lake Erie can send her And the iron boats go as the mariners all know With the gales of November remembered In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed, In the maritime sailors' cathedral The church bell chimed till it rang twenty-nine times For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call 'gitche gumee' Superior, they said, never gives up her dead When the gales of November come early

Commented in I was raped by a priest, then it was covered up. The pope has to tell the truth
For them,it definitely can be,so the only way for things to change is for the church to be boycotted.
that current and future generations of children and vulnerable adults are protected, and that past victims of the atrocities so decried by Pope Francis are finally able to see some meaningful path to justice. That can’t be too much to ask, can it?

Commented in Catholics consider withholding donations amid scandals
“I don’t think that we should punish all churches just for that,” she said. “I don’t think that’s right.”
I do, cause unless they go the way of the dodo, this will never end, ever. They should just go a step further and stop going to the "church",take their kids out of their "schools" and boycott their "hospitals."

Commented in Movement encourages Argentines to quit Catholic church
This needs to happen all over the world. People just need to leave this amoral "church". The only way to stop them is to hit them in the pocketbook.
"We are receiving the apostasies of all the people who want to renounce their ties to the Catholic Church," said one of the organizers, Maria Jose Albaya.

Commented in The Clergy Abuse Crisis Has Cost The Catholic Church $3 Billion
Yet they keep doing the same sneaky shit over and over and over...Just can't get a clue now can they.
As I've said before,in a perfect world, this pedo-religion would be closed down, all the higher ups imprisoned for life, all the building and property they own sold and the profits given to the abused and the families of the abused who took their own lives. And the Vatican would become secular. What I also don't grok is why anyone goes to the cc,or their hospitals, much less sends their kids to their "church" or school. What is wrong with these people!?

The "Progressive Left" is worse than the Catholic Church on heretics. Your beliefs have to exactly match a checklist or you can't be one of 'us'.
