Snapzu reminds me of the old Mixx.com. It was taken over by Bill Gross and Urbermedia(Chime.in) It went down recently . I have been looking for something like Mixx ever since. Glad to be here and am enjoying the quality posts and people.

I lurked chime.in here and there. But there was just too much spam everywhere.

Yea I agree,Chime.in was never as good as Mixx.

I was never a Mixx user, but Chime.in nearing its end was plagued with spam. It was sad to watch, even worse to use.

Yes, a lot like Mixx...but in colour!

Me too! It's like the best of Reddit and StumbleUpon combined!

Much easier on the eye than Reddit, yet with the same kind of community feel to it.

Why thank you. I think I'm gonna love this place far more than reddit. Reddit's just been run to the ground by the admin's refusal to really suppress certain subreddits that have been trashing the site for a while.

Does someone have any info about how much the traffic grew in one day?

I would like to know as well. It probably is not as big as the Digg migration, but surely there was influx of users today (myself included).

        • drunkenninja
          +5

Nope, definitely not as big as the great digg migration since reddit did not slit its wrists in the bathtub.

Surprised that the site is functioning smoothly even with the infamous reddit hug of death

    • sysadmin
      +16

Good point. I didn't think of that until you wrote it, but I think this needs more attention. The site creators deserve a lot of kudos for doing such a good job.

This can only be a good thing for Reddit as well though. I visit both and tend to comment here rather than Reddit. Anything that brings more interactivity from lurkers like myself to contribute to the internet can only be a good thing for both communities. Plus.... competition makes everything better.

        • sysadmin
          +10

I've been looking for a replacement for reddit for a while. I'm hoping snapzu will fit the bill. It still has a few rough edges here and there but mostly everything is well polished so I think it has a lot of potential.

I was around just after reddit started and I miss the small community feel it used to have. This place sort of reminds me of the reddit I knew 7 or 8 years ago.

          • eruditojones
            +4

Totally agree, to be honest. If the internet could set up some sort of chain system where I'd know where I'd start to post before betraying it and finding somewhere else to hang out I'd be more than grateful.

      • bakkabak
        +2

In fact the reddit thread and the reply citing Snapzu were both made by admins and they boosted their servers yesterday just for that promo shot.

          #snapzuconspiracy

The hosting is on rackspace, its actually not hard to spin up virtual servers on the fly to handle traffic spikes. But if it was true, and the admins pulled this off... masterful job.

The site looks good and a lot of effort has obviously been expended here. The internet desperately needs competition for reddit and I plan to give snapzu traffic and contributions to try to help it get going. The pump has to be primed and you need users to get things going, so count me in.

I remember browsing Perez Hilton's website in his very early pre-famous days. I had a feeling his site would blow up and when I found this site I got the same feeling. Internet intuition? Perhaps. Time will tell. This place definitely has the potential.

This doesn't seem very legit to me. A mention in a blogspam article based on an AskReddit post?

EDIT: I've decided not to delete this comment, even though I basically regret making. Please reserve your judgments until you've scrolled down and seen my follow-up and semi-apology.

I had a chance to take a look at your reddit profile.. I couldn't help but to see the negativity you manage to spew...

Some examples, just from the last 25 comments:

      1.

It's basically just a blogspam site though, right?

      2.

Does the website normally look like a shitty blog or is there something wrong with it from the reddit traffic? Also, why not just go to goodreads and look at what they rank the top 20 quotes as? Either way, it's not your fault - thank you for compiling the quotes from a blog that compiled the quotes from a social media site that compiles quotes from books people read. You saved me some time.

      3.

This is what we call blogspam.

      4.

So this is reddit now? Plagiarizing sloppy blogspam buzzfeed articles? I'm out.

Taken from some of the most recent comments. Full reddit comment history here.

Whats up with all the negativity, why not let people just enjoy the site and the moment. Why try and ruin it for people?

      • dubsideofmoon
        +4

Well, it's extremely strange for you to do that.

Yes, over the last week, there were 4 different times that I called people out for blogspam. It's something that really bothers me, that is happening all over the place, and that I'm trying to prevent there from being more of.

If I'm going to give this site a chance, which I probably won't after this strange call-out, I would prefer if there were a certain level of integrity that did not include self-congratulatory postings of mashable articles written about AskReddit posts.

I personally thought it was great, and figured I should share it with the rest of the community. Of course I'm going to defend my actions.

This place never got anything even close to a mention of this magnitude, especially from such a prominent place like reddit. To have people coming on here and and downright accusing me of blog spam is uncalled for. Yes, I'm a power user, and yes I love this place... but lets be serious, why would you even care? This place isn't even on your radar, so why come on here and call my intentions illegitimate. Everyone should have the right to enjoy some positive feedback every now and then, and my goal was to share it with this community.

Who are you to judge me? Go back to reddit and enjoy what you have going there, why come on here for the soul reason of "trying to stop blog spam"... btw, welcome to snapzu, wish you gave this place a chance, and most importantly actually contributed instead of just being negative.

          /edit - spelling

            +5

Look I'm not trying to be that difficult. Let's just take back what I said and move forward.

It seems like we have different definitions of blogspam. That's all. I should have called it a "listicle." It's cool that it's been mentioned on reddit and obviously it brought people, like me, here. I think the important thing that you could take from this is that perhaps you overreacted by resorting to attempting to embarrass me just because I interpreted an article as not being "legit." The important thing I should take is that some of my contributions are interpreted as being negative and that I should try to have a more positive presence and then perhaps sneak constructive criticism as necessary.

Hey, I'm over it. Glad you came back and hope you stick around. If anything we need more peeps like you, you sound like a good guy that just made the wrong entrance.

Haha. Good way to put it! I came in guns blazing when I should have been like "oh, this place is cool."
