To slim down, it helps to get up early and see the light, study says
To maximize your chances of fighting flab, new research offers some simple advice: Wake up early and go outside. People who loaded up on light exposure at the beginning of the day were most likely to have a lower body mass index, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal PLOS ONE. That relationship between morning light and BMI was independent of how many calories the study participants consumed.

EU is killing roaming fees
The European Parliament has voted to scrap the roaming fees charged for using a mobile phone while abroad. Under the wide-ranging telecoms reforms, the cost of making a call or downloading internet data in another EU country will be the same as at home. The change is due to take effect from 15 December next year. It still requires approval from EU governments.

Crows are as clever as a seven-year-old kid
Crows are as intelligent as a seven-year-old kid, say scientists. Their abilities to make tools, such as prodding sticks and hooks which they use to pick up out grubs from logs and branches, have been counted for their smartness. Scientists experimented with six wild New Caledonian crows to challenge their understanding of cause and effect. The tasks were all variations of the fable in which a thirsty crow drops stones to raise the level of water in a pitcher.

The Million Dollar Homepage still exists, but 22% of it has rotted away
Before Kickstarter and Indiegogo made crowdfunding projects simple for everyone, Alex Tew financed his college education by selling 10-by-10 pixel chunks of a webpage for $100 each. The Million Dollar Homepage became a viral sensation and sold out in 138 days. Eight years later, the site still exists, essentially frozen in time. That provides an interesting window into the phenomenon of “link rot,” or hyperlinks that used to work but now point to dead pages
