A radiograph of a hand dipped in iodine
The density of the fluid on the surface allows the visibility of soft structures that a radiograph would not normally image in detail. X-rays do not penetrate denser matter as effectively as soft tissues. Hence, bones and areas where the iodine is present appear white; the detector plate of the machine receives fewer x-rays in these regions.

Has Oculus Finally Conquered the Virtual-Reality Vomit Problem?
Virtual reality makes me sick. It starts with a feeling of dehydration soon after the goggles go on, followed by sweating—and by that point it's too late to avoid the real unpleasantness. This isn't supposed to happen anymore. Backers believe the motion-sickness problem has been solved, finally clearing the way for widespread adoption of VR technology.

Did Back to the Future get 2015 right?
IN the 1985 film Back to the Future, Marty McFly travelled into the past, to 1955, to save his parents’ marriage. Four real-world years later — but mere minutes after returning to 1985 for Marty — in 1989’s Back to the Future Part II, Emmett “Doc” Brown arrived with urgent news: Marty must travel to the future to save his kids. So Marty and Doc jumped into the DeLorean and set the time circuits for 30 years hence: Wednesday, October 21, 2015.

Moon's molten, churning core likely once generated a dynamo
When the Apollo astronauts returned to Earth, they brought with them some souvenirs: rocks, pebbles, and dust from the moon's surface. These lunar samples have since been analyzed for clues to the moon's past. One outstanding question has been whether the moon was once a complex, layered, and differentiated body, like the Earth is today, or an unheated relic of the early solar system, like most asteroids.

Martian meteorite may contain evidence of extraterrestrial life
NASA rover Curiosity is beavering away up on Mars, examining rocks, drilling holes, checking out the weather -- but it's not just up there to look at the planet's hospitability for humans. It's also looking for conditions favourable for life; not now, but in the past, when Mars may have been home to extraterrestrial microbes. But maybe the answer is right here on Earth, after all -- in the form of a meteorite.
