Excellent article. If you want to understand the number one public health problem, watch 'Sugar: The Bitter Truth' (cited in the article) - a lecture by Dr. Robert Lustig. I've watched it three times and took notes. Quite a bit of the biochemistry is over my head, but the bottom line is real simple: sugar is poison.

Yep, there is nothing good about sugar. Just about to watch the lecture now.

I watched it several years ago and it's so true. Yesterday i bought some yogurt with live cultures to use as a starter for when i get my yogurt maker..It had as much sugar in it as a blooming candy bar!

Rodents, chickens, rabbits, pigs and students fed sugar and carbohydrates, he said, invariably showed raised blood levels of triglycerides (a technical term for fat), which was then, as now, considered a risk factor for heart disease. Sugar also raised insulin levels, linking it directly to type 2 diabetes.

So very true, yet you still see grains in pet food across the board..What's bad for other mammals is bad for us.

Society will benefit greatly by a complete paradigm shift in nutrition. The USDA, with American cereal crop interests in mind, did the world a huge disservice with their education like the food pyramid, carb only breakfasts, juices being healthy, etc.
