Rule number 8 in the snapzu etiquette explicitly states hate speech is not allowed in any form.

On a personal note, this website existed before the influx of reddit users and it is my personal hope that many of these most toxic elements from reddit would not make their appearance here. I am very disappointed to see that some people are not interested in building the positive community the snapzu veterans have set out for us. Perhaps you would be more comfortable or find a community more to your liking on voat.

Exactly because you have every right to not want to associate with an entity that allows people to spit in your soup. Just like people who want the broadest form of free speech don't have to associate with a website that clearly states racism and hate speech will not be tolerated.

Because of the invite and reputation system. If someone from /pol/ wanted to come in just to fuck with things, the first barrier to entry would be getting an invite (admittedly not that hard) and the second thing would be if reputation drops too low too quickly there can be some nasty consequences (temporary bans becoming full bans etc etc).

If there were an anonymous posting system, someone with even a basic modicum of patience could come in, work on the rep for the profile until it was good enough and then hand the login over. Since there would be no way to trace the harassing/trolling/spamming content to its source it would just run rampant until an actual admin intervention.

Okay, I can see some of the reasoning there. I'm one of moderators at the new /t/suicidewatch which would definitely be a place where something like that could be vitally important.

I'm still intensely skeptical of a way to set it up that doesn't allow for massive amounts of abuse. What's to stop someone from working an account up and then handing the login details over to /pol/ to have a field day with the anonymous posting for example. I do however see the value in having some way of posting that isn't directly tied to their account, I just don't know how it could be done effectively.

What would be the benefit? Right now usernames are anonymous (not publicly tied to the name of the account holder) so I don't see what this would do but essentially give people the opportunity to troll or spam without recrimination.

At this moment no there is not, but the admins are working on rolling out an API as soon as is reasonably possible.

    First of all Welcome!

Secondly, well, what are you into?

Most of my tribes are hobby/interest related obviously so you have /t/books, /t/art, /t/gaming, /t/psychology /t/mentalhealth etc etc. If you're interested in any of those things go ahead and pop in.

There's also /t/asksnapzu, which is exactly what it sounds like and /t/newtribes for the tribes that people are creating. If you don't find what you're looking for, you can always make it yourself and get it up and running.

There was a brilliant Sitcom in the mid 90s called Newsradio. Phil Hartman, Joe Rogan, Dave Foley, Stephen Root and some other awesome talent was on there. It was fairly well received critically but never really brought in the ratings so they were constantly living in fear of being cancelled so for their third and fourth season finale they did a Newsradio in Space and a Newsradio as the Titanic episode respectively which ended with pretty much everyone dying.

It had some strong absurdist elements, dry humor and was all around amazing. One of my favorite shows of all time.

If that's not old enough, Kolchak the Night Stalker. It was a paranormal investigation show in the mid 70s. It's incredibly cheesy at times, but what makes it fun is that it came out at around the time the Watergate scandal was breaking and investigative journalists were pretty much regarded as heroes. So Kolchak is a plucky investigative reporter who keeps inadvertently stumbling into these paranormal happenstances. Very fun, if you're into that kind of thing.

I'm really hoping for the obscure Invader Zim reference. Though I suppose if that were the case he would have gone with "TheAlmightyTallest". Shit... I just disappointed myself.

I've fallen into the Paradox hole, hard. I've been binging so hard on EU4 the past few weeks it's not even funny. I've already finished two full campaigns and England and Poland and am now working on a Russian one. Luckily in the past couple of days I've been feeling a little burnt out so it's somewhat subsiding.

Growing up we adopted a dog from a rescue agency and man this dog had gotten the worst of it. He had permanent hip dysplasia, a crooked tail from it having been broken in multiple places and was quite possibly the most neurotic animal you could ever meet, but he was a sweet heart.

The Fourth was always the worst day of the year for him. I would remember gaming on my Dad's computer in the basement and he would come and hide under the desk I was at and I would pet him and give him treats while the fireworks were going off.

    1) - /t/asksnapzu - Obviously not as big as askreddit, but is the functional equivalent.

    2) - Do you mean like, is the site's core infrastructure or software updated or do people regularly post? For the first one I know with the influx of new users the admins are going into overdrive to upgrade servers and try to roll out an API for developers as quickly as they reasonably can, but beyond that, I don't know much.

    3) - Not at this time. The admins are asking for donations to help cover server costs as up til now it has been entirely out of pocket for them. They've already blown past what they requested (a modest $370 or so) and any further contributions will go to covering next month's server costs.

It's crazy but so far it seems that it seems to be out of pocket for the handful of individuals running it.

They did make a blog post requesting donations for server hardware and they made their monthly goal in less than 24 hours.

Combine the generosity of the user base with the ginger souls and you have an almost unlimited form of revenue!

The problem I see is that hate speech is explicitly forbidden in the etiquette guidelines for the site. I really don't care how popular it is or becomes, I would absolutely support any admin intervention to remove hateful content.

As I've said elsewhere, disagreement or disapproval is one thing, hate is another altogether. It's not like your only two options are full support or hate and an entire tribe dedicated solely to the hatred of a specific group of people, regardless of what it is, is fundamentally against the values that Snapzu has outlined for themselves. That isn't the kind of community the people running the servers want to foster and ultimately the decision should stay with them. They are in no size, way shape and/or form beholden to the popular opinions of their users.

Regardless of any of that, if I see any hateful content coming up, I will be downvoting it and specifying the reason for that downvote as hateful content. It violates the etiquette of the site and does not contribute to any meaningful conversation.

Well, if a community you want is empty, that's a golden opportunity to start posting content there to get them started.

It's kind of a Catch-22. Everyone loves these smaller niche communities, but when they find them they're empty so they move on. It takes a couple of people to step in and start posting and engaging like crazy so that the next person that comes by looking for their niche sees that it's active and decides to stay and contribute.
