Hello, I'd like to say I'm pretty impressed with this site so far

I know that most of the people on Reddit jumped ship to Voat, but that place caved under pressure almost immediately. Their voting system is also quite questionable, with the requirements to attain a certain amount of votes before you can vote yourself making it easy for some users to have extra power over the others. I'd like to know however, do you feel like this is a suitable replacement? This is merely for conversations' sake. It looks more media / pictures oriented, so it makes me wonde

I certainly hope this site doesn't just become a site for FPH members to just jump to. While I like voat as well, it seems like everybody that jumped ship first were the hate sub people and the conspiracy people so the actual site is buried under a toxic community. I want new members on this site and I think this website is the best alternative to reddit (I think its actually better sans the low activity). What I've always loved about it is that it encourages actual thoughtful discussion and interaction with the content rather than a circlejerk in the comment threads. Content over comments.

I'll say why I came here after the drama, although I didn't even know about the /r/fatpeoplehate subreddit until it all started.

Giving too much power to a single entity is not okay - Reddit can now abuse the privilege of their status, because nobody is there to contest them. I'm not even saying what they did is necessarily wrong, but if it really was, what could the people do about it, other than rage there?

This site provides an alternative, and the real world corporations have taught us that competition is never a bad thing.

I'd rather always have a place to go if one of them turns away from my standards.

I wouldn't say its as much as "too much power". I'd say its more of handling power irresponsibly. I remember when they banned /r/pcmasterrace. The fact that that place is a problem to them and not the actual hate subs just shows that they really only care about their advertisers. I forgot where I saw the comment, but somebody hit the nail on the head. They aren't doing this because they actually care. They are doing this because they want to make sure they can jump ship at any time and make a profit selling it.

It really feels messed up how they didn't force themselves harder onto people with their advertising scheme (which would bring immediate financial benefits to them) and instead decided to go after a subreddit which is now ruining the entire website, because members from outside the community are also backing up the harassers.

Hindsight wisdom is of no use, at this point.

r about how decent it is for actual conversations.

I'm sorry if I posted this wrong, I'm barely learning the basics of it.

Many worthwhile folks’ve gone to Voat. Certainly not most, though. Haven’t done more than poke around there myself. As far as getting votes before you can vote, though, will say it has something going for it that other sites haven’t. You know, like MetaFilter’s small fee for participation.

I would certainly choose this place over Voat right now. Sure Voat has the familiar UI, but so far here on Snapzu there's less of a focus on upvotes and downvotes and more on discussion and content. I know this place is still in it's infancy compared to Reddit and I know Reddit was like this before when it was small, but I'll take this while I can.

I don't like Voat. It has the same power-hungry mods and the same power-users as Reddit.
