    In context of fighting climate change, I don't think this news calls for celebration. As long as energy production depends on fossil fuels, we're not going to achieve sustainability. Energy production with natural gas indeed has a smaller carbon footprint than oil or coal. But it's not small enough. We need clean energy, not 'less dirty' energy.

    I could stand corrected. I can imagine a straight transition from an oil & coal dominated energy system to a completely renewable & clean one might be too slow to meet climate goals, and this be a necessary intermediate to reduce emissions while the transition is happening. This I don't know. I just hope this doesn't create too much of a delay on attaining the renewable & clean energy system we need to end up with.
