    What's wrong with what the article suggests, OP? Defining masculinity as "brute who has no emotions, and that's something to strive for" is a bad idea.

      Me, I'm not sure I buy the argument that feminists and brown people are the problem. So maybe it is feminists and brown people that make it, sobs, so vewy vewy hard to make it as a white man in this world. Wipes tears. How would I know? I never thought masculinity was anything like this wingnut says it is in the first place. Snort. Cry me a goddamn river.

      Edit: Corrected for mistaken identity.

        I don't disagree with you. I edited my previous comment to make it clearer. It's early in the morning here and I guess I was more tired than I thought. >.<

          Forgive me for sounding cross. Wasn’t with you, at all. The link’s ludicrous, Red Pill, sexist, racist persecution fantasy was what set me off. Agreed that what being a man is changes. Agreed also, that the fact even straight, white, men are dying earlier in the States is a clear sign things’ve gone badly wrong. You see that in increased mortality for lots of — whaddya call it, ‘intersectionalities,’ er, demographics — these days. Hint, not the rich, though.

            It's fine. I should really try being less hasty with what I type out online. :P

            Suicide rates in general through out the world are going up, usually driven by economic hardships. I don't think white middle aged men are jumping of buildings because of the Mexican hordes pouring over the border or the mean spirited women working class....and as far as defining what masculinity is, well it could be a lot of things, depending on how you were raised, or where. I didn't receive the brute with no emotions lessons, so I must be missing something. Interestingly enough, Arab Muslim countries have some of the lowest suicide rates in the world....and I don't think they've redefined masculinity.

              It's said suicide is up worldwide 60% since 1945. Clearly the way to reduce suicide rates is to have another catastrophic world war. You know, MAGA!

              I never got that lesson either so maybe things have/are changing or maybe it's not as prevalent as some make it out to be?

              As for the countries you mentioned, they tend to be well off economically (i.e. Saudi Arabia has a very generous welfare system thanks to every country in the world relying on petroleum), but that doesn't strike me as the whole picture.

              What I am reminded of was a tidbit I learned in a sociology class: heavily Protestant areas tend to have higher suicide rates than heavily Catholic ones. The reason is thought to be that Catholicism doesn't push as much of a "rugged individualist" worldview and emphasized community more than Protestantism.

              I think that's a key, one thing we need to do is to stop isolating ourselves (all of us, not just white guys) and get back into the meet flesh-and-blood people in your community habit.

              @RusSwatKatsFan -

              Yes, a sense of community, of belonging, participation, this is what is lacking in a lot of different parts of society. People are retreating and becoming isolated and feeling useless. Here's an interesting tidbit on the Arab stats...Syria has a lower suicide rate that the US....far, far lower....now that is amazing. I think when you live close to death, and death chases you at every turn, you learn how to appreciate being alive, more than anything else.
