I suppose there always is that possibility. Assuming there is intelligent life at this location and they wish to be our new overlords. How long would it take them to get here? The rate we are going we are going to go extinct before anyone arrives any way.

Or, like a fellow intelligent species in the universe that they would like to meet. Sorry, I don't have a link to provide, but it is, by far, the most likely scenario. I don't necessarily like saying that Stephen Hawking is wrong, but Stephen Hawking is wrong.

This could be so many things. The possibilities are as vast as the universe itself. Even if we presume it pertains to intelligent life-forms and not to some natural phenomena (that we may not even know of!), it could very well be something that is not directed at someone in particular (not actual communication but a result/consequence of something else) or that it may be an occurrence that is beyond our scope of (current) understanding. I am not saying that "if we'd be there/closer, we'd understand", I'm saying we could very well be unable to understand due to our current genetic limitations. Anyways, pretty interesting stuff.
Well, it looks like Occam's Razor must prevail. It was probably a strong signal from earth, a telephone call for a pizza...or such
