"If we had this monster sitting at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, it would appear 10 times brighter than a full moon. It would appear as an incredibly bright pinpoint star that would almost wash out all of the stars in the sky," he added. Conclusion: a black hole is pretty bright. :\

Interesting, but I believe any historical talk about lattices, at least in the context of computer science, necessarily has to start with a mention of the Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz algorithm (LLL algorithm) from the 1982 paper "Factoring polynomials with rational coefficients". It was an algorithmic breakthrough, gave a efficient approximate solution to lattice problems. It had an exponential approximation factor, but very good in practice. The killer app was cryptanalysis.

I never thought about that before. Oh well, learning new things everyday. So the round eggs require a wider pelvis than ones that are more elongated.
