Nothing new...
Hand crafted soda was very popular in Europe back in the 80's. However, I've noticed its popularity weaning over the years due to poor flavor selection and ready made pop that you can pick up anywhere and store for long periods of time.
Here is a picture of how people would buy these soda machines and turn them into little flavored soda drink stands.
