Narcissism and aggression go hand in hand, study says

According to a thorough analysis of 437 studies on narcissism around the world, there appears to be a strong correlation between narcissism and aggression — regardless of gender, age, and country of residence. The analysis was published in the journal Psychological Bulletin this week.

Why Nearly All Mass Shooters Are Men
This week, a shooting attack at a grocery store in Boulder, Colo., left 10 people dead. Just days earlier, eight people were fatally shot in a rampage targeting spas in the Atlanta area. As with almost every mass shooter in recorded U.S. history, both of the suspects in the recent attacks are men.

This is the story of those 10 days, the new and relentless strain of gun violence in America, and the desperate need for us not to look away.

The evil within us: How Christian fascist ideology led to the Atlanta killings
Robert Aaron Long, 21, charged with murdering eight victims, six of whom were Asian women, at three Atlanta-area massage parlors, told police that he carried out the killings to eliminate the temptations that fed his sexual addiction. His church, Crabapple First Baptist Church, in Milton, Georgia, which opposes sex outside of marriage, issued a statement condemning the shootings as "unacceptable and contrary to the gospel."

We spent a fortune on police body cams. Why haven’t they fixed policing?

2012 Is Bullshit; 2020 Is When We’ll really Be in Trouble
Peter’s work suggests that peaks of violence in the US work on a 50-year cycle, with the next state of upheaval set to hit humanity in 2020. It’s sort of like that 2012 Mayan-apocalypse stuff, except Peter’s theory is the result of the hard work of a modern, living, and well-respected scientist rather than something hippies like to talk about while taking heavy psychedelic drugs. We spoke to Peter to find out what’s supposedly going to make the US descend into a horrifying, dystopian pit of violence in eight years’ time.

The Police's Military Tactics Turn Peaceful Protests Violent
Police in riot gear swinging batons. Plumes of tear gas. Protesters on their knees, pepper-sprayed in the face. Rubber bullets shot from moving cars. Such scenes have played out in some 75 cities across the US after the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25. US president Donald Trump has called for authorities to shut down protests with tougher policing, but he’s wrong. Decades of research show the right way to police a protest is to avoid excess force, remain calm, communicate transparently, and constantly negotiate.

I went to prison for murder at 15. I learned violence and I can help others unlearn it
I learned violence from my parents. They showed me that if you want something and they won’t give it to you, then beat it out of them. My dad beat my mom in the house when he didn’t get he wanted. My mom beat us in the house when she didn’t get what she wanted. So I inflicted physical violence on the next person to get what I want.

No evidence playing violent video games leads to aggressive behaviour in teens, study finds
Teenagers who play violent video games are no more prone to real world aggressive behaviour than their peers, according to UK researchers who say their negative effects have been overstated. Fears that gory games like Grand Theft Auto and Call of Duty might make children think on-screen behaviours are acceptable have been a major concern for parents and policy makers for years. Last year President Donald Trump said violent games were “shaping young people’s thoughts” in the wake of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school shooting in Parklands, Florida.

Mexican mob burns detective to death in child abduction scare
A mob of about 100 people in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo doused a detective with gasoline and burned him to death, according to local officials. The Hidalgo state prosecutors’ office said the crowd attacked local police in the town of Metepec on Thursday and took the detective and three other men captive. They severely beat the men and burned the detective after dousing him with fuel. It was unclear if he was on duty or if they knew he was a detective.
