Texas police officer faked his own death and fled to Mexico, cops say
Authorities in Texas say a police officer who notified his wife that he planned to kill himself actually faked his own death and fled to Mexico. An arrest affidavit revealed Friday that 29-year-old Austin officer Coleman Martin earlier in the week texted his wife a photo of a note indicating he meant to drown himself in a lake near the border with Mexico.

San Antonio's Mayor Blamed Poverty on 'People Not Being in a Relationship With Their Creator'
San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor is under fire for saying that "broken people" who aren't in touch with religion are at the root of poverty in her city. Taylor made the remarks at an April 3 forum where she and another mayoral candidate fielded questions including one from the director of San Antonio’s Christian Resource Center, who asked what they saw as "the deepest, systemic causes of generational poverty in San Antonio," the San Antonio Current reports.

A Mesquite police officer was telling them their 18-year-old son, Graham, was in the hospital with a serious head injury. They should come as quickly as possible. They sped in the dark south to Dallas from their home on a dirt road outside of Paris, in Northeast Texas, arriving at Baylor University Medical Center at dawn. Graham lay unresponsive in the intensive care unit beneath a bristle of medical tubes and instrumentation.

An 18-year-old Texas woman's claim that she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted was all a hoax, police say. Breana Harmon Talbott ignited a sense of fear and outrage in the Denison community, as well as on social media, after she said three black men in ski masks were responsible for kidnapping her, taking her into the woods, and raping her. The investigation began when police received a call on the evening of March 8 from a man claiming to be Talbott's fiance, Denison Police Chief Jay Burch said in a release.
