Total Failure: The World's Worst Video Game
Howard Scott Warshaw has had many gigs over the years, but perhaps his most notable achievement was also a spectacular failure: "I did the E.T. video game, the game that is widely held to be the worst video game of all time," he says. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600 was a commercial flop and a gaming disaster. Based loosely on Steven Spielberg's 1982 blockbuster of the same name, the game was a confusing mess that left players frustrated and disoriented.

Why the SNES mini emulates more than just the console
The upcoming Super NES mini console is more than just a SNES emulator. Like its predecessor, it harkens back to a time where physical cartridges allowed for the integration of custom hardware on a per-game basis that would evolve the capabilities of the base hardware. The Super NES - or Super Famicom, if you like - took that to the next level, not least with the introduction of the SuperFX chip, bringing hardware-based 3D to the 16-bit era. The SNES mini features Nintendo's first ever official emulation of that chip, but SuperFX is just one example of custom hardware that improved the console's capabilities.

NES Found "Rotting" In Kentucky Barn For Decades Is Resurrected
Vintage consoles are beloved by collectors for many reasons; for some, it's down to pure nostalgia and the belief that games really were better back then, and for others it's the iconic designs and familiar controllers. Another reason cartridge-based retro systems are so appealing is their robust nature; they can withstand much more punishment than more recent disc-based machines.

'Cuphead' is as wondrous as it is difficult
Cuphead is a flashback in many ways. It hearkens back to the classical, hand-drawn animation style of the 1930s. And it's reminiscent of 2D, 8-bit-era platformers that were so tough, they wanted to make you throw your controllers against the wall. Those are both reasons I can't wait to play the rest of the game when it finally hits the Xbox One and Windows PCs on September 29th.
