+12 +2Stop using extreme violence to sell your game
Bones bludgeoned with hammers. A noose wrapped tightly around a struggling woman’s neck. The blade of a knife pressed into a vulnerable stomach. The gruesome imagery Naughty Dog manages to cram into a five-minute trailer for The Last of Us Part 2 is physically uncomfortable to sit through.

+7 +2De Blob is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in November
Old but excellent ink-splatting plaformer de Blob is coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on November 17th, THQ Nordic has announced. De Blob originally released on Nintendo Wii back in 2008, and got a fair few thumbs-up for its refreshingly distinct platform puzzling. It's pretty delightful all round, and involves manoeuvring the titular de Blob - "equal parts amorphous blob of paint, struggling artist, revolutionary and juvenile delinquent"...

+5 +1Why PS4 downloads are so slow
Game downloads on PS4 have a reputation of being very slow, with many people reporting downloads being an order of magnitude faster on Steam or Xbox. This had long been on my list of things to look into, but at a pretty low priority. After all, the PS4 operating system is based on a reasonably modern FreeBSD (9.0), so there should not be any crippling issues in the TCP stack. The implication is that the problem is something boring, like an inadequately dimensioned CDN.

+1 +1There will be a PS5 – Smartphone style approach will not takeover
Shawn Layden at Sony has made something very clear today: there will be a PS5, and the smartphone style upgrade-approach will not takeover. In other words, we’ll still be getting our PS5 and ‘normal’ console cycles, probably in addition to smaller upgrades like the Pro, in the future.
